is it possible to add on flights to Virgin routes... have a flight booked to sydney but want to fly onto New Zealand ... doesnt appear as an option even if you book a new flight ?... would ideally like to check in and fly straight through ... rather than come out and go back through check in and security

If you have already booked and confirmed your VS flight then you can add another flight to the same booking/PNR reference so you can gain the extra benefits like checking your bags all the way through. I wanted to do something similar by was informed that it isn't possible. VS can still book the flights for you but it will be a new booking.

If you haven't made your VS booking then do it over the phone and then VS will be able to included internal or connecting flights on one booking.

If you're onwards flight from Sydney is with an airline VS have an agreement with it should be able to be done.

Get it on the same PNR if you can (this can get excruciating at times with pricing issues), as convincing VS to through check bags otherwise is a really tough ordeal. To me it's flat out poor service that they don't do it anymore, but that's the way it is. HL had luck out of SFO last year, IIRC, and reported it as a rather astonishing event [:)]

Yeah but this year it was no dice [:w] They wouldn't do it but VS did it no problem out of EWR a couple of months later

Or alternatively just rely on the luck of the draw ....... This is so bizarre.

Quick lesson on VS check-in! Bags can only get checked all the way through if the onwards flight numbers are in the system. As I said in above post it can only be done if VS have an agreement with the airlines (ie if going to BGI you can tag bags onwards with Liat). If they do the check-in agent can put the onwards flight numbers into the system there and then at check-in and then the bag tags will be printed out with the onwards flights on them (similary if the flights are in there and you are not travelling straight on from that destinations the tags can be stopped at whichever destination you are stopping at).
As long as you make sure you tell the agent you are travelling onwards you should be on your way to sorting it out!
Also, the boarding cards may not all come out for onwards flights, but as your bags are going through, all it takes is a quick stop at the transfer desk.
Hope this helps!
