anybody have any guesses as to whether Gatwick will be experiencing delays tomorrow with the snow falling heavily right now?

dear old FIL is due out here to visit us on the VS29 tomorrow morning and his connection at BGI is fairly tight so just wondering what everyones bet is as to the delays that may happen ... or may not

I am some 15 miles north and on the North Downs - currently I have 3 inches of snow and it is still falling.

Gatwick Express is still running, but many local lines are experiencing 'adverse weather'

My bet is that there will be delays, even if the runway is clear, as staff will be delayed getting in tomorrow

The situation this morning is being described as being the worst since 1991[:0][:0]

Outside I have around 5 inches of snow and local rail are advising not to travel.

Virtually every method of transport, road, rail and air are all heavily disrupted in the South East today, best to just stay home unless you need to go somewhere.

From what I am reading, LHR, LGW and STN are closed.

Good luck to all those traveling today.

Hi, I live about 7 minutes away from Gatwick airport and the snow here is awful, many people can't get out there drive way's to go to work and nearly all the school's in the area are closed, however all of the roads around the area and around Gatwick are clear and looking on the BAA website it looks like alot of the translantic routes are opperating with minimal delay, but many european flights are cancelled of delayed

LHR is closed until 5pm at the earliest due to a plane coming off of the runway when taxiing (sp?).

LGW has severe delays, all other London rgeion airports are closed.

This according to the news on Heart.

Well we have at least a foot. I have just been out and it is up to my knees in places. We are in Guildford, A3 is very quiet and most of the M25 in Surrey is shut.

The problem is that we don't have the infrastructure to clear the roads it seems.

The Met Office classified the weather today as an Extreme Weather Event (upgraded from a Severe Weather Warning) so to have any transportation working is good going.

Your luck was on my side as I escaped STN only 3 hours late.

Can't speak for the other airports, but STN was open. They seemed to be having to clear the runway and taxiways and stand areas, get as many in and out as they could, and then close the runway and repeat the clearing exercise, as the snow was refusing to be picturesque and just lie there but instead insisted on keeping falling. Everything was proceeding far more slowly than usual, with aircraft being escorted to and from the runway.

he got out only just over 2 hours late. Now has to spend a night over in BGI as he'll miss the connection to us but at least he's airbourne!
