Dear collective...

Currently looking for somewhere near LHR to stay overnight on Wednesday. My girlfriend flies in from Greece late on Wednesday night, and we're off on the VS19 on Thursday morning.

In order to save on two treks around the M25 within about 7 hours (I'm already over that side of town with work on Wednesday), I'm thinking about staying overnight near Heathrow.

Any personal favourites out there? Anywhere I should particularly avoid (bad service, bad cleanliness, crap rooms, etc)?

Cheers,
Mike

Uber-pricey, and being attached to T4 puts it on the wrong side of the airport...

Heathrow express will take you to T3 from T4 (well, so I am led to believe anyway..)

Sorry, I should have said, I've already arranged to leave the car in the Pink Elephant, on the Northern Perimeter Road - less than £100 for 12 days (booked in advance), so something on that side of the airport would be ultra convenient.

A bit OT but "less than £100 for 12 days", you guys in London really get taken to the cleaners for parking. I am leaving my car at Edinburgh airport for 24 days for about £55...

All part and parcel of living in the Home Counties, I'm afraid. It is possible to get cheaper car parking near Heathrow, but it's not as convenient as Pink Elephant (i.e. less frequent bus transfers).

The Mrs. has also spoken, and said that she wants to come back to my house rather than stay in a hotel. So, that's decided then ;).

I'll bet she can't sleep, and will be asking to leave at about 5am. We'll probably be the first people in the Clubhouse!

Cheers,

Hmm - I will be in need of staying near LHR soon too. Maybe a better question would be; Any recommendationa for quality, cheap hotels near LHR?

The Hilton is nice but a lot of 'bling' but since I will not be there long I would not get much 'flinge.'

Anycase, I booked at the Ibis Hotel Heathrow Airport London. But that may change if anyone has suggestions against it.

And, thanks :D:)GreboDB:):D. That link kicks arse! Makes sense of the whole Heathrow hotel things.

Hotels to avoid... I don't like the Renaissance, 'cos they ripped me off for parking once [:0][:(!]

Hotels that are good... most of the hotels on the Bath Road are okay.

Have a look at Holiday Extras to see what deals are available for the day you want to stay.

The seems to be a lot of variation of the site, with the same hotels jumping up and down on price.. presumably depending on availability.

In July we are staying at the Park Inn (formerley Le Meridien) again because they have done us a good deal which includes a carvery meal on the night of our stay.

If you are staying on or near to the Bath Road, and looking for a place to eat. The Pheasant Inn, which is behind the Marriott and the Radisson Edwardian on West End Lane, Hayes, is well recommended by many V-Flyers, as it was the scene of our first ever social gathering [8D]:D

I now always stay at the Radisson Edwardian prices do look a little higher lately,I have stopped booking through holiday extras as you can usually find a better deal direct http://www.radissonedwardian.com. Pity you have already booked pink elephant as the rad has a large secure carpark at the back, 15 days parking and room £99(weekend)£140 (week) approx £8.50 per extra day.

Mike,

as said before you'll struggle to go too wrong with any of the Bath Road hotels, airport hotels are like station pubs, very similir the world over. I have found their pricing very accurately reflects what you're going to get. I've tried a lot of them but really all I want is a bed for the night (I usually eat in London before heading out there) and a bar that can pour a drinkable pint of Guinness.

Radisson Edwardian and Park Inn are good but at the pricy end, last couple of times I've used the Ibis and the Novotel, about half the price of the above but the rooms are big and clean and the beds comfy.

I have got fed up of using the Hoppa bus, it seems to take a very long time to travel the few hundred yards. Get a taxi, if there are two of you it works out about the same price anyway.

This one?
Stayed there for the very first V-Flyer Social (see this thread & this thread - seems sooo long ago :D). Didn't think it was too bad at all - or did the alcohol cloud my judgement?

Cheers

Michael,

That's the bobby.

If I'm going to be in a hotel for a couple of nights I'll stay somewhere nice, but for 12 hours, 8 hours of which is sleep time then over 100GBP just seems a waste to me.

Then again with 2 weeks secure parking in at the price,I think its a bargain.I wouldn't care to leave my car at some of the hotels on Bath road as they look non to secure.

Agreed,

if you're going by car then it makes a lot of sense, I can't remember the last time I drove to LHR or LGW I always take the train or the tube.

Having moved up to London from Kent recently i've got rid of my car, I just don't need it anymore, and on the very rare occasions I do it works out much cheaper to hire one.

Hi

We stayed at the Jurys Inn last December when it had just opened. It was a good rate (£59) and the bar food was great. You pay £7 for parking overnight.

It's near Hatton Cross tube station and I thought it was a great stop-over airport hotel - new, clean and good friendly service. Current rates are around £49 per night which is fantastic value.

A bit late but hopefully of use for the future...

Thanks for the info about Jurys, Daisy [y]

It is a new one to me, it will be good if it is near Hatton Garden Tube. Is that how you get to the airport, or are they part of the Hotel Hoppa cartel?

I know there are problems with the tube at the moment, but I will certainly consider it in the future.

They are just finishing off a massive new hotel near the railway station in Nottingham, so they are obviously an up and coming chain.

Ok so I am looking for a hotel at Heathrow before my flight on VS45 (don't fancy treking all the way from east london at rediculous o'clock!)

Reading this thread the Jury's is looking pretty good @ £49 and the tube link right into the airport - not having to mess around with the Hoppa bus sounds a real bonus.

Can anyone else make any recommendations? or has anyone stayed here - is it easy to get to from the tube stop?

Thanks

Stayed at Jury's on Wednesday. It was £79 but is cheaper at weekends. Easy 5 min walk from Hatton Cross Tube. The Hoppa bus stops at the hotel or you can take the free tube replacement bus that runs every 5 min from Hatton Cross to Terminal 4, and then the HEX (also free) to T3.

Sheraton Skyline has the most fantastic beds ever! It's their signature 'Sleeper' sleigh beds - best night's sleep I've ever had (even after falling into bed at 4.30am! [:I]).
