I've had occasional problems logging in, but it usually is possible after a few minutes.

Sometimes I've found logging into the US site works when the UK one doesn't - no idea why, but that has done the trick before.

You don't need to log into FC to change seats or check-in. You can do this from the 'Manage Your Flights' button without being logged in.
