PE - equipment box under seat

Hi
Seat Guru keeps mentioning restricted foot room due to an equipment box under quite a lot of the seats in PE.....does this effect people badly or is it just a minor inconvenience? I would be grateful for some feedback and also if anyone has a favourite PE seat.

In my view, these boxes are NOT a problem in PE, as there's plenty of other room to put your feet.

However it's a different story in Economy - they ARE a nuisance there

Just my observations - no doubt other people will report otherwise - perhaps it depends on your leg length....

As Peter mentions, the IFE boxes are a complete pain in Economy but not much of a problem in PE.

The newest A346's have a *slightly* smaller IFE box but it's still get's in the way.

ooh I dunno, on the B744 LGW fleet the aisle seats in the bubble have a wall under them.

I find the boxes in PE to be an inconvenience, but not a major problem. The only time I have found them to be really annoying in is the middle section of seats towards the rear on the baby bus. Consequently I try to get a window seat on the A340s.

helenlilhaynes - what flight are you travelling on? If you're on the Airbus, you could try and get the bulkhead seats (row 18) at check-in on the day of departure.

thanks for the input to date.....we will be travelling on an airbus A340-600 out of Heathrow to Miami...we had hoped to book 18AC or 18HK but have been told these can only be booked at check-in...so I guess there will be a mad scramble to check-in early in order to change to these seats?.....and I understand there is no Twilight check-in the day before like there is at Gatwick?
because we are flexible on flight dates we haven't actually booked the seats yet (can fly any time in February before 19th - we want to be in Mexico for our anniversary on the 20th) but we have been advised to avoid seats 22DFG, 23DFG or any of the F seats....
Any further advice would be welcome.

have now booked our flights and managed to get PE 21AC which should be ok but we will try to change to 18AC or 18HK at check-in as you suggested Tinkerbelle...does anyone know if the seats will be released at OLCI or only when you get to LHR check-in?

The bulkhead row only gets released at check in so get there early lol!

Yep, but sometimes if you get there to early they may not have been released yet. This has happened to us a couple of times, but if you ask the agent nicely they just have to ring through and get them released, not a problem usually.

Hi...one last thing.
At the mo I am still intending to try and get 18AC or 18HK at check-in but reading a review someone said that there can be more legroom in the seats further back as you can put your feet under the seat in front.
Question: does anyone know how much extra legroom you actually get with these bulkhead seats?....cause I hate it if you have to put your feet up the wall to get comfy.
I might be better off sticking to 21AC...any opinions anyone?

I guess it comes down to personal choice. I actually like resting my feet against the wall, so prefer row 18, plus it means whoever is in the window seat can get in and out without needed the aisle seat pax to move.

It is a wee while since I have flown PE, but I think the leg room is pretty much the same in the bulk head or a normal row, with 38' leg room anyway, you have to be pretty tall to need to go in to the space underneath the seat in front. As for row 18, I'm just under 6ft and it was about perfect for resting my legs on the wall if I wanted to, but also comfortable enough without needing to do so.

I must be having another blonde moment as I forgot about the 38' which means a tich like me won't even reach the wall....and as hubby is 6ft like you he should be comfy as well...

18A has legroom a little restricted by the bulge in the aircraft door presumably containing the slide. Leg room is still good though. 18C has UNLIMITED leg room.

The mid three are indeed restricted by the wall and have signs in front of each seat saying 'Do not put your feet on the wall' [V][V][V].

18H and K are restricted by the bulkhead also but do not have signs restricting wall use. Stretching out as a 6 footer it's easy to encounter the wall.

On the A346 in PE the only seat not to have a box is D. A has one and C has part of it. F has one and G has part of it. K has one and H has part of it. If you are over 6ft and like to stretch your legs out then bulk heads seats are not better than seat D from my experience. All the seats with the exception of F are OK. Legroom in the bubble on the Gatwick fleet is better, but the aisle seat has a huge box covered in plastic, which I really don't like. I also think the PE legroom is better on the Heathrow 747. Not sure if its my imagination though.

18AC/HK are situated on the bulkheads on both the 343/346 and the legroom is exactly the same in both the seats as the bulkhead is in front of you and NOT a door.

The two PE seats that have a door by the A seat are 28AC on the LHR 744. 29HK on the opposite side have a bulkhead in front of them.

D'oh I was just SO excited to be able to do it I saw the 8 and went with it.... sorry all - naughty me [v]

I don't like the bulkhead seats as much as the rows behind as there isn't room to stick stuff for takeoff/landing and the noise from the ovens in front is quite loud. Oh and I find those triangle leg rest things a waste of time. I'm 6'2' and find the legroom in all the seats fine.

Have sat in 18AC on the 600 twice and would always choose them if I could. Yes nothing can be on the floor for take off and landing so you put it in the overhead locker and once in the air you can get what you need down and put it by your feet for the rest of the flight.

I quite like the foot stools as it is somewhere to rest your feet and I prefer them to the foot rests in the rows behind.
