This maybe the same as asking how long is a piece of string, but here goes

Flying out on Wed on VS043. Unfortunately flying economy (2 pax) and as we are on an 'E' code (long story) there was no chance to upgrade.

Anyway, see that Economy is now full, but PE is showing 9+ open, and Business has also got space.

Planning to do twilight check-in but not till about 8pm.

Is there any chance do you think that we maybe able to upgrade to PE at airport at twilight with either money and/or miles. Is there a current rate for upgrade costs at airport?

We are both silver - will this make any difference.

Failing that, does anyone have any experience or extra legroom / emergency exit seats. Can these be bought at twilight or does it need to be day of flight?

Sorry for all the Q's but dreading the flight........... not flown Y for a while, and the thought of no leg room, and sitting in the middle of a 3 (partner v. tall so will need aisle seat) puts the fear of god into me........... [:0]

E class? I am not sure what fare code that is to be honest, never heard of it. Virgin's economy codes are usually, Y,B,L,M,Q,X,N, with N being the lowest.

As for upgrading at the airport, quite often there are offers on, usually for upgrades with cash, and if PE is still showing as quite empty then there is a good chance for this. With miles, it gets a bit more tricky as you will probably need to upgrade your fare code first and then use miles, and more often than not, on the day offers will be cheaper, but something to ask if there aren't any of those available.

AFAIK you are able to buy exit row and extra leg room seats at the airport, this again, is just down to timing at the airport and if others have already beaten you to it, but it won't harm to ask.

I doubt your FC Ag status will have much, if any effect in helping with any of the above to be honest.

Apparently the class I am flying in is

Staff Travel - All staff, including Mr. Branson are booked into E class if travelling on their concessions, compassionate travel or as 'must go'. The type of travel and their staff/pass code determine which class they will really end up in.

Not able to get any miles or tier points and this is why we were not able to upgrade beforehand. I don't know if this will better or hamper our upgrade chances, as neither of us are staff, and neither of us are Mr B!!!!!!!!

I was flying out of Gatwick to Orlando on a non-upgradable premium ticket early last year - I managed to get them to let me in the lounge but they would not under any circumstance upgrade me to upper using miles. They rang through to the relevant management team who had none of it. Seemed silly as Upper was only half full but it suggests you'd have difficulty with using miles.

That's correct - staff tickets are E class bookings.

I would recommend twlight check in and paying for bulkhead seat in economy or upgrading to pe and getting a legroom seat over the exit, which you do not pay extra for.

Interesting, i've just been looking at VS43 for a week on Sat, looks like it's pretty empty in UC but full in Econ and fairly full in PE. Given that i'm travelling PE - fingers crossed!!!
