Check in was fairly empty, with one person at the UC desk, I was called over to the PE desk and checked in efficiently, it was explained where the lounge was and all the usual things.
Didn't think much of Terminal E, so headed straight for the clubhouse. It was packed. Hardly a spare seat and this was 2.5 hours before the flight. Can't say I was that impressed with it all. The only hot food was soup, either clam chowder or Sweet Potato. Tried the latter, but it was more a solid than a liquid. Decided to slum it in the terminal and get something there instead. Back to the lounge and some very nice apple pie was out, so went for that, but it was frozen in the middle, so there was a few of us not eating it, so they took it all away.
After a few drinks, the flight was called. No passport check at the gate, just scanned boarding passes. The crew member at the door actually knew where 11K was too, on most of my flights recently they seem to forget there's an upstairs. On the way out I was told to turn left, and even when I suggested it was upstairs he insisted I go left.
Found my seat, made myself comfortable and prepared for the flight. S came round to say hello, introducing herself, and asked if I knew how everything worked. This hadn't happened on the way out, leaving people trying to work out how to convert the seat to a bed on their own. Decided this would be a good flight as early indications showed a good crew, as I watched them ready the cabin, helping the pax and generally doing their job well.
A few mins late with the safety briefing as someone was in the toilet, but soon done, pushed back and up for a great night time view of Boston.
Normally I don't eat much on board as I never like any of it (too fussy!) but the rotisserie chicken with mash looked tempting, and was very nice too. Nearly had a hissy fit when told they had stopped doing Grey Goose, but luckily that was just a mistake and I was soon slurping away [:p].
Moved down to the empty bar for a few more drinks, a browse through some magazines and some chatting to the crew. There were two FSMs on board. S passed through saying how busy she was, and I made some jokes about Pam Ann doing her I'm so busy routine. I'd seen her live on Sat on the start of her US tour. Very funny, though no VS staff in the audience (or at least no vocal ones), so a few BA jokes, but mostly the American carriers got the Pam treatment instead. [:o)] A clip from the Boston layover here if interested. Everyone seemed to be filming and taking pics in there!
The FSM then 'forced' me to have some chocolate cake, which was very rich, but very nice. [;)] Back on the diet tomorrow I think!
Went back to my seat and watched a film, soon the lights were on for breakfast and lots of activity as the smell of bacon rolls wafted round and people started to get up and prepare for landing.
Landed about 20 mins early, and exiting the gate area into the throng of the early morning flights that had also just landed. It was going to be a busy immigration hall. Luckily Iris was working with no queue and through first time.
Off into Revivals, the first time I've been in since the food changes. Can't say I was that impressed now. I quite liked the buffet style service. My plate was cold, the one sausage and bruscetta were only warm, and the scrambled egg was boiling hot. Is this really an improvement?
Overall it was a very good flight. The food at either end could have been a lot better though. The other crew member serving upstairs was smelling lovely too, it's not wrong to smell crew is it? I probably won't mention that though when I write in to VS to say how good the crew were. [:I]
