If I book a hotel room via a discount site such as hotel.com do you know if the hotel will honour their points rewards when we check out? I'm thinking about wyndhams in particular but any of them really.[:w]

If book hotels.com through VA shopping website you get 4 FC miles for every pound spent
ah yes, I had forgoten that.
I also remember booking a marriot room through one of the discount sites about 4 years ago and handing over my marriot card when we checked out. It was 'swiped' but I never checked to see if my points went on, so I think I might just try it this time. they can only say yes or no.

A couple of years ago I had to make several trips to California central coast, on my first trip I booked a room through Priceline, it ended up being $60 for a Marriott, they gave me my points and after a quick talk they booked my future stays at the rate I had gotten on priceline.
So Marriott is good about this.

Highly unlikely, most hotels require you to book direct to earn any reward points.
Not always - a lot of them won't give points if its made via an opaque site where the hotel is not known upfront such as priceline.com. I've never had any issues getting points for stays not made directly - methinks a lot of the travel agents (inc AmEx) would get a bit pissy if they were to restrict the points in that manner.

I once got UA miles at a Sheraton once even though I'd booked via hotwire. When I queried why I got no miles for the other Sheraton I had stayed on the same trip (again booked via hot wire) I was told no miles as not booked direct with Sheraton but the let me keep the miles!

I understand what you are saying, and I should have probably been more clear. Before I found this site and all the knowledge that comes with it, I used to book a lot of hotels through sites like Expedia/Last Minute/Hotels.com (and even VH) etc, and the response I always got from the hotels was that it a discounted rate I was booked on, so I couldn't be awarded points.

Sometimes depends on what conditions rest with each scheme. Our last stay at the IC in HKG, didn't qualify for Priority Club, as 'non-qualifying stay', basically booked through trailfinders. However Upgrade offer available through them made up for missed points.
Often Hotel shcemes T&C's state what type of bookings won't qualify, Travel agent rates etc
