Upgrading PE Voucher to Upper, possible?

So there are currently no G seats available to LAS but I can get PE using my miles and AMEX PE Voucher, so was going to book this and then wait till closer to see if any G's open up and upgrade with miles to UC. Is this possible on the AMEX PE Voucher? Or do I have to book the flights entirely with miles for this to be an option?

No, you can't upgrade the PE voucher seat with more miles (or cash even) to Upper. Either full miles, or even a L bought with cash upgraded to PE with miles, could then be further upgraded to UC.

Thanks for answering this Neil - was about to ask the same question. I have 4 TP's required to get to Au and a few of these AMEX vouchers added to my account. Currently thinking a very short L+PE upgrade voucher return to New York or Boston is required!

Just for clarity the AMex PE vouchers can only be used for a T > U upgrade - i.e. an economy MILES redemption, You can't use them with a Y,B or L fare

Yep, 100% correct, to use the AmEx voucher you must first buy an economy reward ticket with miles only then use the voucher to upgrade to PE. Rather confusingly there doesn't actually have to be any economy reward tickets, just PE.

Thanks guys for the info - I thought the voucher would apply to an upgradable B/L fare - clearly not. Hmm, in that case I guess I need to get an L and use miles to upgrade to get those pesky 4 TP's! Will save the PE upgrades from T-U for a future trip...
