This is the main V-Flyer Forum for general discussion of everything related to flying with Virgin-branded travel companies.

Bug testing is coming to and end, and a final polish is being added to a whole new version of V-Flyer.com. In the next couple of days, we'll be switching over to a brand new site.

It's a completely new dedicated server, with a far more modern forum codebase. It also features a completely new community section, with wall posts, groups, photo albums, live chat, Twitter feeds, Facebook & TripIt integration and a host of other features that will help you make the most out of our flying community. On top of that, the tools section of the site has been re-written with new (up-to-the-minute) data sources, including live flight status and take-off time history. And, if you've got an iPhone, the good news is the site will automatically format itself to Apple's user interface style for optimised mobile browsing.

During the switch-over, the forums here will be locked so the data can be copied across without getting out-of-sync. My goal is to get everything over intact, although given the complexity of the move, it's quite likely that there will be the odd error in the transfer. Don't worry - if your account has any glitches, the moderating team and I will be on hand to make sure your transition to the new site is as smooth as possible.

If you have any problems, you can contact me at the address [email protected] - I'll do my best to fix any issues with the minimum of fuss.

phpBB3 - one of the big mature ones that brings lots of new functionality, and (finally) gets us off the Snitz code that has been dead for years.

I've already hacked phpBB3 a fair bit to put back in our forum specific features like great circle maps in itineraries & trip reports ;-)

I really can't wait, the new site is very impressive, and I am really looking to using when it is fully active and not just a few testers.

Looking forward to seeing you all there.
It really is a big step forward, for what is already a very good site.

We probably will find it a bit of a learning curve, finding out how to best use all the new features.
Looking forward to trying to build it up rather than trying to tear it apart and find holes in the test! (Sorry Pete)

Pete has been doing a fantastic job - very often in the small hours!
I do think we should also thank the Mods., who have been working away in the background. The site, both old and new, is very much a team effort.

Looking forward to it.

Will the snagging list be on the site to save you getting emailed the same problem over and over again (not that there will be problems, I'm sure)

While we have tried to abuse the new site over the last couple of months it would be foolish to think that every bug has been hunted down.

Once the roll over is complete and the new site goes live you will find that in the bottom right hand corner of the screen there is a chat client.

If you come across a bug please see if there is a mod online and let them know, if not drop Pete an email explaining the bug.

I should think that there will also be a bug thread as well.

I think a lot of the initial things people might think are bugs, will turn out to be that the new site just works differently and it takes a little bit of getting used to. Some things that you are very used to doing on here, work and look different on the new site, but once you get used to it, you realise it is overall a lot better.

To quote Ericsson. 'It's not a bug. It's an undocumented feature.' [:D]

The forums on this site will be locked in approximately half and hour so data can be copied across. Please finish up anything you're doing now.

Thanks,

Pete
