Checked onto an AA flight from MCO to MIA to catch a connecting flight from MIA to LHR on VS, on Friday. Baggage was checked al the way through from MCO to LHR.

Unfortunately due to the AA flight being 4 hours late I missed my connecting flight at MIA with Virgin to LHR. n( n(

AA put me on flights the next day MIA to ORD then ORD to LHR telling me baggage would follow. Guess what it didn't but at LHR was advised that it would be on flight VS28 from MCO on 25 April. At present it is nowhere to be seen and I'm at my wits end.

Anybody got any clues on what I could do ?|

Oh and who's responsibility Virgin or American?

You say you were told it would come to LHR from MCO? Meaning it never left MCO in the first place. Personally I would ring straight through to MCO and ask to be put through to whoever it is overthere that deals with lost luggage and ask if the bag is there and if and when it will be put on a flight, pricey phone call but that's personally what I'd do as it tracks it straight back to the source. Also if it's still in MCO then I should think AA would be to blame as it was their flight the bag was meant to go on.
Hope this might help!

Keep a strong record of dates, times, people spoke to / baggage forms etc.
And when it is returned, strongly suggest you get a date & timed proof of return from the airline involved. Keep photocopy of all stuff sent off, Especially in current climate as the wriggling out of any parting of cash is getting embarrassing..

We are currently in middle of a battle with Forte (Post Office) insurance- now our ex-insurer.., and Czech Airlines for a 24hr delay in luggage.. they are now requesting a formal timed/dated return of luggage receipt of when it was delivered back to the hotel..having already been provided with all sorts of formal forms from the airline..-from a trip back in early feb!!

I've had a few "lost luggage" events that have really only turned out to be delays - but have only ever really been troubled by them when it's been on the outbound, not coming home. And three days is the maximum I've waited. If you have a report you can (allegedly) track progress on line with tools like mylostbag.com. I only gave myself more grief and frustration the last time by phoning Virgin (Indian Call centre) as they don't have a clue apart from what the "computer" says. Apparently my bag was supposed to be on the later LHR-LAX flight the same day and once that info was in the system they couldn't tell me anything different.

You'll need to check your insurance though as going out some expenses are deemed necessary and will be reimbursed (either by Virgin or the insurance company) wheras if you're already home they wouldn't think it necessary.

Good luck!

Thanks all. Things have thankfully progressed somewhat! After speaking to Virgin and American Airlines on several occasions now turns out luggage is actually in MIA with AA. Should have come out to LHR on AA56 yesterday but the flight was cancelled. So fingers crossed should be on AA 56 tonight. :D

Oh and RedVee, know what you mean about the Indian Call Centre, although in their defence I pleaded with them on Saturday and they did manage to sort out a ticketing issue over the phone (when flying club had already advised me that it could only be done at the airport) that meant AA flew me out of MIA on Saturday after I missed my VS flight on Friday.
