best romantic destination

Hi all,

So i'm looking for recommendations for your best romantic destinations, I'm looking to have one of my own (blushes modestly) and i need inspiration, Virgin routes are prefered , but any non virgin rout is considered. i'm not on a deadline but by 2011 would be nice.

Anywhere where my significant others are in attendance does it for me, including the local Sainsburys. ii)

However I do love those Caribbean evenings, beautiful sunsets, a gentle breeze, a nice wine, the gorgeous HWVs (no seriously, the one and only Mrs HWV) - so how about this gem in St Lucia. It gets VERY well reviewed on Trip Advisor and is on our list of "places to holiday." :X

I am going to suggest the Caribbean too, especially Antigua, I love it there, its beautiful. If you want a budget buster then stay at Galley Bay, its a wonderful hotel (we got married there)

Sydney - no contest. One of the restaurants overlooking circular quay, the opera house and the bridge. Pick the right time of the year and it's unbeatable... y)

The PJH's have been there and can highly recommend it. It lives up to the reviews.

Depends what you're after - personally I find a wild and windy night at the Bell Inn in Walberswick, all cosy nooks and open fires, scores high on the romance-o-meter.

Heart-shaped hot-tubs, cheap booze and, ahem, clubs :w

All depends on your personal tastes.

Boston, then out to Vermont/New Hampshire to stay in a remote log cabin.

Barbados - south and west beaches and sea as warm as a bath, east and north more rugid with impressive shorelines.

Beautiful temps of 75-85F and friendly people.

We stayed at the Turle Beach hotel and were very impressed indeed - right on the beach, warm evenings spent in the pool or bar on the edge of the beach...

East Winds gets my vote too! We got married there in 2000 and are heading back in 25 days time (not that I'm counting or anything!! )

Urmmm It will come as no shock I will recommend Dubai.

Head for a city hotel and overlook a myriad of beautiful modern architecture including the already iconic Burj Khalifa and take a stroll around the Dubai Fountains as they play 'Time to Say Goodbye.

Head out into the desert and sit by your private pool as animals cross the arid desert without a building in sight. Star gaze at night with the least light pollution i have ever seen.

Stay on the beach at the Madinat resort and take an small boat (bra) ride around the waterways to your hotel room. Sit on the terrace overlooking the stunning Burj Al Arab lit up by fire and colour.

You can also grab fantastic deals on high quality custom gold and platinum for those special rings!

It depends on what you want from it.... beaches etc, would agree with others, personally doesn't suit us, as mrs NH explodes when exposed to strong sunlight for extended periods. We've had great "quality time" that constantly comes back into our thoughts/ conversations- Beijing (shortish transfer up from PVG). plus the obvious crowd following NYC/SFO etc. SYD we found slightly underwhelming (poss the jet lag kicking in.. ), Shanghai & Hong Kong, o.k. but wouldn't be top of the repeat list.

However curved ball might me Cape Town, bit of everything, bootiful scenery, interesting different cultural experience (i.e. thats not generic US virgin destination), sunshine, fantastic people, food, wines. A trip that will give longer memories. Only down side is usually cost compared to other options out there.

Given the choice, we'd jump back to Beijing, then Cape town, however we like cities and more random destinations, so its all down to personal preferences.
Could be NRT, however need another fortnight to find out..

The Turtle Bay resort on the North Shore has always been a winner as well.

I think the definition of romantic is quite a personal one but Italy (Venice or Rome) could be good contenders? Or maybe Niagara Falls/Victoria Falls if you want to go a bit further out? A cruise down the Chao Phraya river in Bangkok with the golden temples as a backdrop would also be pretty impressive.

If you like beaches I would say the Maldives without a doubt.

Many lovely places and all previously mentioned are fab.

Just to confuse you even further what about Qualia, Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays. The bungalows with their own infinity pools together with the back drop are just fantastic.

I'd be counting! Let us know how it shapes up. We were there in 2005 and had a wonderful time; I've always wanted to return (if only for the swim up DIY bar and the plantain chips and the beers in the fridge and the food and the service and...oh, everything..!).

Romance ?| As a Northerner I am unfamiliar with this word :w

I must say, I can't say I have ever found a place to be romantic as such. We have done some of the usual/supposed romantic places, Paris, Venice, Caribbean (Orlando ), and I personally just don't get how a place is romantic.

For me, it is all about being with the right person, somewhere where you are comfortable and then you can pretty much make any place, situation romantic if you so desire (and yes, before anyone even says it, even Hull ). Nothing worse than trying to force romance, which is one of the reasons I'm not a fan of Valentines day.

Aware that one man's romantic dinner is another man's pizza, I shall carry on the Caribbean theme.

So you fly to Antigua, get off the Virgin 747 and hop on to the resort's own plane, which they have sent to collect you, then a short hop to Barbuda and then BLISS. y)

Fully agree.

Fortunate enough to have visited through either work or vacation most places on this earth over my "cough" 40+ years of living and stayed in some absolutely lovely places but often alone or with someone who turned out not to be of my dreams. Very recently I had the most romantic afternoon and evening of my 47 years and it took place in ..... London. Dont overlook what is on your doorstep and without a doubt it was with the person I was with and what they had arranged for us that made it so very special :X
