Thanks for that, Alex. I may use that info to chase Amex up. I assumed it was because I has a plat card a few years ago, that I didn't get the welcome pack.

Going off at a tangent, I have just had a message in my secure message box in reply to a question I asked yesterday. The reply is four lines long, and has five quite blatant typos. Not impressed at all. n( n(

They also only tend to answer the first query if you have more than one.

I really am not impressed with 'proper' Amex. The CS has been woeful. I had to chase the 20k miles, then they said they made an error in setting up my account so issued a new card but without explaining why and only a begrudging apology.

Plus I dont' think I have been given the right number of double miles (there are so many exception).

I will continue to use Amex when I know I can get double miles otherwise its back to my MBNA Amex. I certainly won't be renewing when it comes up next year.

I was never contacted to tell me that the card had been approved - as promised on the website - it just arrived. PIN first, then the card a few days later.

Don't worry about rushing the £1500 spend - you have three months.

From the T&C of the offer - 1.For the Platinum Card, the 40,000 Membership Rewards bonus points will be awarded onto your account once you have been approved and you have spent and charged £1,500 within the first 3 months of Cardmembership.

Link to Amex website.

Thanks Nick but if it doesn't arrive by Friday then it's going to be another month or two before I can get back to the address in the UK to collect. I could just dump some plane tickets on it after asking the mother to open for me.

I was going to apply for the Plat card but after the experience with the Gold card it has put me off.

Firstly they have declined to pay the Quidco offer, secondly still no 20,000 bonus miles despite two emails from them saying I was entitled to them and they would be with me within a couple of working days v(

One of the emails said (and I quote) "sorry you aint got them yet and "give us tree days to sort it". and I thought my English was bad :?

My dads plat card turned up today in just a letter with no presentation box either, i have been lucky by the sounds with no problems at all with my card, but i see a lot of people here are experiencing the same service which is crap considering the £300 it costs.

cheers

I had to chase Amex as no sign of the 40,000 MR points despite having completed the required 1500 spend, so chased them using the on-line enquiry form yesterday. Lo & behold the points are now showing. Have just transferred them to my VS FC account and am amazed that in no more than a minute they are showing there!

Am disappointed with Quidco though as no cashback yet. Steve (t'other half) is in same boat with his Preferred Gold card....got the MR points no probs, but no Quidco cashback, despite having been given a tracking reference months ago. I used their online enquiry form and have been sent a message saying I need to provide the "exact" date I applied for the card. The problem is I simply don't remember...all I know is that the card arrived quite quickly, on a Saturday, and I used it to buy some petrol later that day!! I stupidly didn't keep the email that I guess (but don't remember) I received confirming my application had been approved...that will teach me a lesson. Has anyone else yet succeeded in getting their Quidco cashback on either the AMEX Preferred Gold or Platinum?

Re the welcome pack, yes my card arrived in a beautiful presentation box complete with luggage tags and forms for Priority Pass and the various other partners we get free memebership with....sorry Nick ;-)

Cheers

All this has the hallmarks of Amex expending too quickly without the resources to support the additional demand v(

If these sort of things keep on happening, Amex have a very real chance of loosing reputation and as a consequence loyalty - not something to be aiming for

I have contacted Quidco yet again (my second contact with them ) on the 3rd of Augustas my transaction was validated on the 28th June. This is the reply I received

"Your American Express Preferred Rewards Gold Card cashback query validated on 28 June 2010 and payment can take up to 120 days from that date to be sent to us from the retailer, although it is usually sooner than that. On receipt of payment your purchase will show a status of received and will be paid in the next payment run.

We have two payment runs each month - on the first working days following the 1st and 15th day of the month.

Working days are classed as Monday to Friday and exclude bank holidays (although we still answer customer queries 7 days a week). An example would be as follows:

* The 1st day of the month is a Saturday - the payment run would go on Monday the 3rd.
* The 15th day of the month is a Sunday and the Monday is a Bank holiday - the payment run would go on Tuesday 17th.

Please allow up to 5 days for a payment to reach your bank account and up to 14 days for a PayPal account

As always, please contact us again if you need more further help from us."

So up to 120 days from the date it was validated v( v( . Ridiculous. :(! . Massive faux pas IMHO by Amex.

You might have to wait even longer than 120 days. Quidco is getting slower and slower now for a lot of retailers.

I'm still waiting for my Quidco cashback from Apple when I purchased my iPhone 3GS in September 2009 :(!

They will get the requisite 120 days, and if they've still failed to deliver the cashback to my account at this point I shall be contacting them on a daily basis until the money IS paid. I can't believe you've waited almost a year with the iPhone.

I have done 8 purchases / transactions (including the Amex Gold card) and NONE of them have tracked automatically let alone being paid yet.

Contrast that with 2 out of 20 on Caskback Kings that needed claims putting in.

I've sent email after email but they never do anything about it.

Even more annoyed that they are not even paying cashback for iPhone 4 purchases from Apple at all.

TBH, 99% of my transactions do get tracked and paid properly within a reasonable time. The Apple one is the only one that I'm still waiting for. Funny thing is though, I have a newer Apple store transaction that has tracked and been paid without any problems (much lower value too which makes me quite suspicious)

Ditto for me too ! they also deducted their £5 fee though!

Been a bit of a hassel with Quidco and AMEX cocking things up but the 20k miles were worth it !

Double ditto (is that possible ? A bit like double secret probation?). A number of my Play.com transactions came through too.

Quick question - I've just logged on to my Hilton HHonors account and see that I'm now Diamond, having been whatever the lowest status is before! When I received my Platinum card I filled out the forms for Hilton, SPG & Goldpointsplus and had been expecting Gold for all of them. Indeed I am now Gold on SPG and Goldpointsplus but hadn't expected the nice surprise to be Diamond on Hilton! Does anyone know if this is standard now with AMEX Platinum?

On an aside, I am extremely pleased with how Platinum has worked out for me (well indeed entire family!). I got the 40K MR points miles and duly transferred these to my VS FC account, all online and instant no probs. Quidco have now paid the £60 so all fine there meaning net cost is £240 and myself & Steve, my brother (& his wife/kids) and Mum (and her husband) are all covered by the one of the most comprehensive travel insurance policies available....and still got another 2 cards to dish out to other family members! Couple all this with the FHR benefits and Gold/Diamond status on major hotel groups and, IMHO, £240 is a no brainer for all this :-) I even managed to clinch an Emirates 2 for 1 Business Class deal through PTS and saved over £2K compared to the same tickets if sourced through Expedia or EK direct!

All in all, I am a very happy chap y)

Cheers

Hi Iain,

From what I can see the Quidco £60 cashback offer is still running >> http://www.quidco.com/american-express-platinum-card

However I don't see any mention of the 40K MR points after initial £15K spend so perhaps that offer has now been withdrawn?

You earn 1 MR point per £ spent and these can be transferred online to other programmes such as VS Flying Club.

Cheers

It isn't a new standard benefit, it seems to have been a one off upgrade offer as some kind of compensation type offer due to some problems some Plats had (maybe some incorrect communication they received from AmEx IIRC) and they seem to have upgraded us all. There is quite a long thread over on the AmEx forums on FT about it, if you are interested.

Glad you are finding the Plat card beneficial. The £300 fee can be an quite off putting initially, but you can easily make that back and more if you use the benefits to your advantage.

Hmm, can't get onto FT to see this, given we've plied much trade at Hilton following Plat membership, keen to find out why/what needed to "qualify"..I've noted none of my miles have been acknowledged for any stay, (although HH points have)

I'm not sure there is anything you have to do to qualify. I am HH gold through my Plat and hadn't stayed at one since last November, then suddenly when I log in to my account earlier this year, I am HH Diamond. I did a bit of searching around and found the thread over on FT, which isn't that clear, but can be the only reason I have got bumped up.

As you are a fairly new Plat, I assume you must have had to have a Plat card during the problem, to get the one year Diamond status as a sorry.
