Hi

Just booked LHR-MIA 3rd August 2011 UC. It is showing an Airbus A340-600 as the aircraft for the day. I have never flown on one of these and would really appreciate any comments/preferences on which seat to choose. There will be two of us.

Many thanks in anticipation of the wonderous knowledge on this forum. (I hope oo) )

I usually opt for around 10 - 12A

To me it has the privacy (you are facing the wall rather than a stranger opposite) and you are close enough to exit through L2, but just far enough away from the bar should it be noisy - but close it you want to join in ):

Either what buns posted or 3-4K

I prefer 5 and 6 K myself, as it's just a little further from the toilet.

Thank you all very much, I went into shock when I saw the seat layout and thought I had made the wrong booking. I didn't realalise they did not always use 747's.

Hi buns,

Would that be both seats facing the wall, but still next to each other? I hate facing strangers so this would be ideal.

Are 3/4 5/6 wall faing?

Many thanks,

They are on the 'K' side of the plane.

Here is the VS seat Map

Sorry to be so thick,

I have just looked at the seat map, (thank you) and being the clever person I am (not) I noticed the seats in the middle change which way they face. So does that mean I would only be able to pick seats on the K row to make sure I am not facing anyone?

Thanks again, that's why I love this forum, nearly always someone on here who can give me an answer straightaway.

The UC is empty at the moment, except for someone that has booked seats 5/6K on the outbound and again they are the only two seats booked on our inbound.

So far, I have booked 15/16A outbound(quick getaway in MIA) and 2/3K inbound. I've put John next to the loo. (hehe)

However, if anyone thinks this is a mistake please let me know.

15/16A are pretty close to the bar.. could be a bit noisy in those seats if it's busy and that's an issue for, would go a few rows further forward if I was you (but would probably still end up at the bar for a while anyway, be rude not to haha!)

Just had a thought, (dangerous I know) will UC passengers disembark first before PE, as I know this does not always happen on 747's?

Yes they will as there are no PE cabins between UC passengers and the door.

Personally I would avoid 2K as it's right next to the loo and not only noisy, but you get people queueing in front of the ottoman at busy periods which is IMHO quite intrusive.
3,4,5K are my favourites.

Karen

That is very nice of you to say that y)

This is one of the reasons that first attracted me to V-Flyer and have always found nothing but kindness and support - glad that others have chipped in whilst I have been at work all day

Just going to echo what the others have said - 3,4&5K are IMHO the best.

2K is ok - the downside is next to the loo, but the small upside is you get an extra shelf which you can use during the flight - but if the seatbelt sign comes on, they CC will ask you to clear it away.

Following my above Mentors advice, I have yet again changed to 3/4K inbound as 5/6 have been taken. I then changed to 12/14A outbound. Happy days.

Sorry me again, for the inbound would it be better to change from 3/4K to 11/12A, do these face the wall? Just wondering as I hate getting stuck behind people when trying to disembark.

3/4K and 11/12A face the wall

3/4k are also in the snooze zone.

As to not getting stuck behind people 11/12A are obviously closer to the exit but there are still prople in front of you and you will be closer to the bar and the possibilty of being disturbed by other pax using it and going to the toilet.

11/12A face the wall too.
Regardless of where you sit 3/4K or 11/12A you may have people in front of you trying to disembark (the 600 has a BIG UC cabin)
None the less- it takes minutes.....
