I just know someone on here will know the answer to this!

I will be booking a return trip shortly, buying a revenue ticket for me and using my two Amex companion rewards for the Mrs and little one.

Am I able to book a return, out in econ, back in PE and still use these rewards? (due to budget constraints!!!).

(I have a 1 month pperiod where I can use these rewards, otherwise I'll loose one due to expiry).

Many thanks,

Al

I don't think that it would be a problem travelling in different cabins on the two legs, the T&C just say -

4.4.1.2 Companion tickets and free complimentary companion tickets must be for the same date and flight as that of the paying passenger.

Where I do think you may come unstuck, is using two companion vouchers when you only buy one paid ticket -

4.4.7 The member or authorised account user can request one companion return flight reward with Virgin Atlantic, provided that the Flying Club member and the companion both travel on the same flight and date, and the Flying Club member's ticket has been purchased at a qualifying adult fare.

Full T&C are here.

Don't forget that the paid fare must be in one of the higher buckets.

IF you can do this, then you could be one of the first people to get good value for your companion vouchers. ^)

Please let us know if you manage to book the flights.

My own personal opinion is that they are a total waste of time. I have never used one, as I have always found that two points earning tickets in the lower buckets are much cheaper than one in the expensive buckets and a 'free' n( ticket.

Some people have reported occasional good value in the PE cabins, particularly to South Africa IIRC; and also they can be beneficial when booking at the last minute and the cheaper buckets, that have advance purchase requirements, are no longer available.

There have been lots of threads about them in the past. I just believe they are marketing gimmicks, purely intended to draw people into taking the credit card out.
