That's as I thought!

Whatt's the deal with inputting names in for flights versus ESTA and API? I'm sure either or both API/ESTA state you should use only first and last names, but Contintental and Expedia both state you should use all names. I really don't care which it is, but I don't want to fall foul of anyone. Up to now, I've only used first and last names, which has never been a problem with Virgin. But other airlines? Why is it so picky????

The new 'secure flight' system was fully implemented from yesterday (1st November)

From the TSA

Secure Flight requires airlines to collect a passenger’s full name (as it appears on government-issued ID), date of birth, gender and Redress Number (if applicable). ...

For airlines, November 1, 2010, marks the end of the year-long grace period to clear out their systems of older reservations made before Secure Flight requirements took effect in October 2009. After November 1, 2010, Secure Flight will not conduct watch list matching or approve the issuance of a boarding pass by an airline if complete passenger data is not submitted.

Most of the data will be collected during the booking process so e.g. Expedia now asks for middle names (not noticeed that previously)

It's a number to enter into the system to say you're good to go, if previously your name came up on a watch list and they've cleared you 8D .
