In response to all your comments and feedback regarding our Gatwick fleet, Virgin Atlantic is pleased to confirm it will be fitting it's fleet of Boeing 747 aircraft, with a new generation of Economy Seat and our latest Premium Economy cabin. We remain committed to offering the most innovative products to our passenger. That's a quote from Virgin's Facebook page

Our LGW/MAN refit will commence in 2011 and aim to have completed by 2012.
We are also currently reviewing our onboard inflight entertainment for our fleet in question.

I don't think it is being very helpful posting something which appeared on Facebook nearly 10 months ago. The refits have been discussed intermittently as more information has come out with regard to new aircraft coming on board and it is not as if it is new information. It could be seen as misleading for people who may think it is an update on the original information.

I also have an issue with regard to copying and pasting from the VS Facebook page. Does it breach copyright when it is taken from a social network site? V-Flyer is very clear about copyright and as Scrooge has already said, posters should link to the article and not copy and paste

Oli

It would have helped if you had included that link in your original post then people can assess the source of the information and its relavance today as well as its timliness (or not)

What you posted clearly states

that is how people have assumed you got it from FB by those two mentions.

giving the link to the source (even if you just quote from part of it - AND you should also clearly state you are quoting) is simply good manners and gives people the proper recognition for the information they have posted.

This may sound like nit picking but there is an etiquette to these sorts of things.

While it's true that there is an etiquette, it's more than that since breach of copyright is an infringement of copyright laws and subject to penalties. It has been policy on VF therefore to link rather than copy and paste

Yep it show does. The legislation does not differentiate with regard to social network sites so therefore its covered by the usual copyright rules.

I would love to be corrected but something about Oli strikes me as rather fishy, his posts over the last few days have all been rather odd and could be construed as attempting to create a bit of anger amongst us regular posters.

Thanks for that, willd. I was hoping that one of our lawyers on board would come and clarify that.

I'm inclined to be a bit more generous about Oli and think he is someone who is trying to make his mark on the site as a newby by trying to start debates on subjects but hasn't checked to see if they have been discussed, which of course they have.

And as sites are becoming more and more stringent on copyright the least we can do is link to them.

Please everyone be careful when copying and pasting, please check with the originating site that they actually allow it, there are a number of lawsuits going on right now here in Vegas involving this.

On that note, though they are rare, anything copy and pasted from the Las Vegas Revue Journal will be deleted immediately, just a warning on that one :D
