Travelling with the family next month and was wondering whether the kids meals served in UC are the same as economy?

Also to request a Childs meal can you do this via manage my booking or do you have to call CS? I've looked at manage my booking and the only meal requests I can make are for vegiterian etc and no child meals?

Any advice/experience appreciated!!

Thanks.

WHen my niece and nephew have travelled they just order from the regular menu (as they would in any restuarant) and the crew gave them a few treats (fruit juice - smaller portions etc) along the way.
As they never had/have burgers/nuggets etc at home it sort of didnt make sense to order it up in the sky.
They were and are as contented with the choice as ever.

Childrens meals from the UK are normally chicken nuggets, potato smilies with peas and sweetcorn. Also on the tray is some crisps, chocolate, fruit, fruit juice and a sandwich for afternoon tea.

It's been a while since I've seen a kids meal coming home from the US but I'm sure it was something like spaghetti and meatballs.

I'm interested by this as well, with my first UC flight coming up to LAX.

With the "reedom menu" though, I'd imagine there's something for most people...

If you order a kids meal, I'm guessing the CC would still provide other goodies from the Freedom menu to kids?

Given you're in UC, I be tempted to avoid the kids meals (however you've not mentioned the kids ages). IMHO find the kids meals to be very gluppy; beans with skin on them/ chicken nuggets and all that they stand for.. etc..and definitely not up there with UC offerings. Given the menu choices, we've generally found mini NH (5) to be quite happy with some selection off the UC menu, nibbles/fruit etc can be asked for anytime.Returning from Oz, I awoke to found mini had ordered her own breakfast!! and CC double checking with me if it was ok..
I'd stick with the UC offers unless you have a very picky eater..

Good advice NH - thanks (at risk of hijacking thread from OP).

Mine is 8, a little fussy, but the UC menu appears to have become less "frilly" recently, so she should be able to find something she likes.

The only place we can get 'goodies' for the kids is from kids meals which have been ordered, if we don't have any on-board, we don't have much to give them other than what is on the menu.

It's never a bad idea to order kids meals just in case there's nothing else that they fancy or in case we run out of the choice of meal that they actually do want, which is always a possibility. If they don't want it when it arrives, it'll likely be used in another cabin by a kid who wants a childs meal but whose parent didn't order one so it won't go to waste!

To be fair, this "goodies" issue only really means little bag of chopped apple/fruit and smallish chocolate/sweet type things..overall not worth holding out for.
Any savvy parents should hopefully of brought a selection of favourite stuff to "suddenly find" thoughout the journey at opportune moments.. :w Its even been known of certain Vflyers for such articles to be thrown at their anklebiters in opposite suites..Disgraceful behaviour if you ask me.. :0

I normally choose the Kids meals for my two boys. They are normal economy kids meals but plated on uc crockery.

The eldest is 7, the youngest 4. Whilst the food is not what we would normally let them eat they are at the age where they regard such fayre as a treat and with the holiday feeling upon us i allow them it.

Well it would be a trifle unfair, i think, since i am tucking into far too much champagne than is necessarily good for me, especially when combined with gin hic.............

Yes, tb, back in dreary old Blighty. Yay.

Just to concur with what others have said, most children will find something to suit them on the average UC menu, but book a kids meal just in case. Don't worry, they won't force feed it to your child should you decide you don't need it, at least, not in my experience...

Don't rely on there being another meal for them. Sometimes (not all the time) if the flight has been very tightly catered, you will have to have the meal that you have ordered (this goes for any special meal as they are included in the meal count). If your child is a very fussy eater, sometimes it's a good idea to take along a few snacks for them to eat if there is nothing else that they like - you see lots of parents doing this. :)

I guess we've been lucky with Tizer over the years, as she's sometimes (quite rightly, in my opinion) turned her nose up at the kiddies' fare, but has always been able to opt for soup or sausages off the UC menu instead.

Absolutely agree with parents taking snacks and treats on board - if nothing else, it provides an ideal comforter (or bribe) as and when required...

I don't know if member MrsB is still around on here - but if she is, she would be a good person to ask about this. She has 3 children of varing ages (I have travelled on the same flight as her+family on one occasion in UC). She seemed to have a mix of UC meals + bits from Burger King in the terminal on the return flight to MAN.

Of course, every child's likes / dislikes are different (I used to be as hard to feed as anything years ago, so I am told). I think my parents would have concurred with mdviponds' advice - pack some "bribe food" just to be on the safe side.
