Yeah apart from the aircraft type, they don't look alike at all to me. ?|

I don't get this one. I immediately think of "Volkswagen Auto Group" and expect some sort of stab at Germans.

This one is classic! Well done, Virgin!
willd wrote:October 2012 G-VNYC Liberty Bell

And I don't get this one, either. The liberty bell is in PHL, not NYC! I'd expect G-VPHL as Liberty Bell. Couldn't they have done G-VNYC as Lady Liberty?

I think the 'WAG' / Miss England is a reference to the 'Wives and Girlfriends' of the England football team.

Maybe 'Golden Girl' should have been G-VHMQ rather than G-VGBR ??

The colours are different but the rear fuselage and tail design is the same

See what I mean?

HL I think VSA380 means how the paint curves round the fin (is it a fin - well the sticky out stabliliser thingy whatever the techy name for that is)

But I think lots of airlines have this wrap around paint job.

Yep exactly.

Maybe 'Golden Girl' should have been G-VHMQ rather than G-VGBR ??

No not really. It is a reference to the olympics that will be taking place in London shortly before her arrival, so using HMQ wouldnt really work.

I must admit the Olympics did cross my mind because of the date but I didn't associate 'Golden Girl' with the games - it wasn't really obvious.

20120 is also HMQ's Jubilee (Diamond not Golden but VS aren't always known for their accuracy!) so thats where my thoughts went.

If it's to mark the Olympics they could have called the plane 'Lady of the Rings' of maybe even 'Stratford Girl'

Changing tack slightly, I suppose that VS will soon be asking V-Flyer members up to Manchester for a "walk around" or even a "quick spin" in the new aircraft?

Or is that a case of porcine aviation?

Lady of the Rings would not be advisible given how precious companies are over IP and other brands riding on the back of them...not that you would want to ride on the back of a book/film but you know what I mean.

The problem with 'Stratford Girl' is that it would not really mean anything to anyone outside of the UK I suspect.

The reason for the less obvious link will be due to IP rights concerning IOC/LOCOG/BA etc etc. LOCOG and the IOC are, quite rightly, precious over the use of any Olympic and LOndon 2012 branded items. And then there is the added issue of BA who have paid a very hefty sum to be "Official Airline Partner" of London 2012 and one would imagine VS have had to be careful not to use anything that BA has actually paid for the right to use.

Those books didn't even cross my mind but there was a (critical) docmentary some years ago about the IOC called 'Lords of the Rings' so given that the planes are all 'ladies' Lady of the Rings seamed more appropriate.

But doing a google search for 'Lady of the Rings' just now came up with some films of a seaming adult' nature that I did not look any further at !

This plane naming marlarky is complicated !

Interesting question- I would imagine not until she arrives at LGW. I am not sure where the interior will be fitted, it could be that it is done at TLS or done at LGW. Certainly BA always fit their interiors out at their maintenance facility in Cardiff.

The interiors are fitted at TLS, I've seen a few pictures of inside whilst G-VSXY was still on the production line.. Looking good.
