Hi all.

Tomorrow (April 20th) I am flying out VS1 to Newark and checked in upstairs, seat 76c. I have an aisle so should be ok. How is it up there in economy? Is it ok? Should I try to get a seat downstairs when I get to the airport.

Would love to know thoughts.

Hi Nick

It does come down to personal preference really. Many like the upstairs economy section because it is a private cabin (UC is at the front of the bubble) - service is generally pretty good as you have a dedicated crew member and bathrooms are upstairs - but I know others will be along with a different view.

If I was you, I would stay upstairs it will be less chaotic than downstairs for sure!

Enjoy your flight and look forward to your TR.

I have been upstairs several times in economy and in my opinion I find it a much better experience than in the main cabin. On the whole it feels far more intimate and I must add that normally there are no infants so it is much quieter.

Just my opinion. Enjoy :)

Nick, Not sure if you've done EWR before, but if you return via here and don't have VS lounge access, Be prepared for the facilities at EWR- There are none! v( One shop and two very crammed expensive eateries, prity much nothing through security..Think Isle of Man/ Y'ocal hopper flight airport conditions, unbelievable as one of the main feeds into NY..

I was on G-VHOT recently in UC and decided to venture up to the bubble to see the new Y section. It was empty other than 2 people but I can see how it might get a little tight up there if it was full.

One advantage is that you will be one of the first off the plane and therefore not at the back of the queue for the dreaded US immigration so for that alone I would seriously consider staying put up there!

We flew to MCO last month. It was the best economy service that we've ever had. 3 cabin crew looking after the upper deck meant plent of quick service.

The UC closets were available for use by the economy passengers (after the UC passengers had all stowed their belongings of course). This was actively encouraged by the cabin crew.

I'm a big person and the amount of room / personal space was as good if not better than downstairs. Priority disembarkation is also a plus.

Interestingly, the cabin crew were saying that the config on those planes is changing back to all UC upstairs from the end of the year.

I'm also having this dilemma. If bubble seats become available do I take or do I stay with the row of two I have reserved at the back of the plane. I'll be on the VS1 at the end of May

Hi, this is my first post but I also have a question regarding upstairs economy.

Are the upstairs economy seats always open and available at check in (assuming I check in early enough) or are they only available when economy is busy?

We are flying VS005 to Miami on May 19th. When I look at the seat map all of the upstairs in not available along with the front section of economy downstairs. Is this because the flight is fairly empty or could there be another reason for so many seats being blocked out?

Thanks for any help.

The last I heard, was that econ upstairs was blocked off unless the flight is busy, most likely changed by now though.

So the flight was great yesterday. I ended up paying for an exit row and got the upstairs exit row. Crew were great and it was a smooth trip. No complaints. My question is how many 747 have this. The flight attendant said all LHR 747's have this upper deck. I was flying in Tinkerbelle and according to V-flyer it's seat map showed all UC on that deck. Interested to know when the maps will be updated and how many other aircraft have this configuration. Thanks

All the LHR 744's have this configuration.

I'm flying by myself but that's what I was thinking at least will only have one person instead of being wedged between two or three

Hi all
So, are these economy seats upstairs a fairly new thing then? I always thought they were PE seats. I am on a flight to Barbados VS029 on 5th May and plan to try and grab one of these economy seats just before OCI is released. Is this the best plan?

Funny - I was talking to a hostess recently about the strange Y + J config in the LHR 774 bubbles and she said the reason they did not convert them to all UCS was to do with the weight of the UC suites. Seems like they have a few different stories flying around. :|

But it used to be all UC upstairs before?

Didn't they all used to be UC in the LHR 744 bubbles? Given my recent flights in UC being totally full, I can see the case for converting them back :?

Yes - it did not make a lot of sense to me at the time :?

I'm not sure if those aircraft that have all PE upstairs have a different structure to those that had all UCS upstairs.

Either way, the hostess said this is how it was "explained" to them internally. Maybe it was just a response to all the people who pointed out that it was a ridiculous configuration.

....or maybe she was just talking bollocks :D

And before it was all UC, the upper deck used to be half UC and half PE |:)
