Hi all,

First, I just discovered this website and I have to say, it is pretty helpfull.
For my first post, I have some questions regarding my upcomming flights on VS. I will be flying from LHR to SFO on VS19 the 22nd of August and from SFO to LHR on VS20 the 5th of September.

I booked my tickets through a travel, so if I want to get an upgrade my only option is to wait until the departure date and ask the CH's staff (I bought an acess on Virgin Holiday) because my travel agent can't uprgade my seat.
Does anyone know what would be the price for an upgrade from Economy to PE?

Also I was wondering, how is it possible to get a seat in the economy section of the upper deck? (the seat map on my VS booking page says the aircraft will be a 747-400 config 4)

Finally, is it 100% that it will be a config 4 aircraft?

Thank you very much for your help,

Alexandre

Welcome to the site.

The current on the day upgrade price from econ to PE is around the £250/275 per person each way level. Of course it will depend on there being availability for them to offer this.

The seats on the upper deck should become available at OLCI stage, so 24 hours before the flight. Again, there is a chance that they have already been reserved by other pax, or the system will automatically allocate them to other pax if the flight is full, so no guarantees.

It is almost certain that it will be the config 4 on your flight. The SFO flights are scheduled on a LHR 747 for your flight dates and they are all the same config now. Of course, things could and do change, and it *might* be swapped to something else should there say be a tech problem etc, but I imagine that is unlikely to happen.

Thanks,
Neil

Thank you very much for the answer Neil.
Though I thought that upperdeck seats could only become available at OLCI stage, as a friend of mine who use to work for VS told me.
My colleague is also going to buy his tickets so as you said he could hypothetically be pre-assigned to an upperdeck seat, am i correct?

Potentially - but it depends. If the flight is full, and the 60% of seats available for pre-allocation have been taken, then the system might automatically seat the rest of the pax to ensure as many families/groups get sat together as possible. When that happens at OLCI stage, the seat map doesn't become available and you remain in your already allocated (or computer allocated) seat.

I thought I read on here that CH staff couldn't do upgrades anymore.

Best ask at check-in rather than the CH.

Hello,

Thanks for your replies all,
Can anyone confirm that CH staff can't upgrade the seat or even let me buy a bulkhead seat?
I remember last June, I flew on VS from LHR to JFK and I was able to buy bulkhead seats directly from the CH staff...
Also I wanted to get your advices on either buying an upgrade from economy to PE, or booking and buying bulkhead seats in the upperdeck.

Thanks again,

Alexandre
