Guys,

My other half was asking last night if we are provided with headphones on board or are we better taking our own to make use of the IFE.

We fly out on sunday on A333 and back on 744 2 weeks later.

Cheers

You will be provided with headphones for use on the flight. They are pretty basic, and we always prefer to use our own, but the option is there is you don't want to.

Thanks,
Neil

One last question we have a 5 year old travelling with us, would we be allowed to have her sit on my other halfs knee with the extended seat belt for take off and landing?

Cheers

On the A330 you must use the headsets provided by the crew, they are unique to the A330 and have a 2 pin socket. If you use your own headset you will only get sound in 1 ear.

I would try and take your own headphones, more so if you are traveling with 5 year old, the very basic ones handed out need to be set very loud to counteract background noise.
Some noise cancelling ones, (budget to suit, depends what your willing to spend, there are loads out there) will allow volume levels to be set lower- an issue we found important to allow mini NH sit and watch stuff.

Even a decent pair of ordinary ones, if noise cancellers not an option would be better, especially for a little one to use. Just check & set the volume with them first.

I'd save something really absorbing for them to do during takeoff/landing time, helps prevent the want to start wriggling and wanting to get off the seat...

It has been known for certain celeb VFlyers to throw sweets across the aisle in the general direct of their child in a vain hope to control them, however I won't condone this activity.. v(

Oh and by sound of it, take a two-pin headphone adaptor, easily bought

Our whole party (of 7) used our own head phones on the A330 without any problem at all - sound worked in both ears no problem.

Nothing to stop you holding hands and talking during take off and landing mand you can always try telling them that sitting in their own seat is a very grown up thing to do.
