Could be printed on toilet paper for all I care. As long as I get the product and service that comes with my appropriate class.

As others have said, it's only a boarding card and you only get to keep a quarter of it.

TB you're missing the subtle psychology on what contributes to a difference. Yes it's just a BP, but it was PURPLE BP and now it's an ordinary BP.

It's just not as obvious anymore, it's not the end of the world, I don't think anyone here thinks that, but I agree that it is diluting UC further (very slightly) and in my eyes, it is cost saving again, like no polos etc.

Yes, but my point is - and clearly I'm on the losing side of the arguement - is that it's the steady removal of little aspects of J class service which grate.

As I alluded to in my point above, what would people be saying if VS decided that it would no longer be operating a priority boarding process? Would people be saying 'Oh well, it doesn't matter, you still get on the aircraft'? - I think not.

Little changes like this all add up.

Not really the same thing though is it.

The colour of the boarding pass wasn't a benefit, it didnt get you anything extra by it being purple. So comparing it to removing an actual benefit like priority boarding isn't comparing apples with apples.

I can't see how the BP not being purple, but now having UC in large lettering dilutes the UC experience at all

I'm happy with print at home boarding cards, or mobile downloads when available. Sometimes, I've checked in online but not printed BP's when travelling in F with BA. At the check in desks, the boarding card for the First leg is printed on exactly the same card as the connecting domestic legs in Y (same happens with J obviously). The boarding card for me does not add to, or detract from the service experience.

I'm afraid I'm with the beancounters on this one. The VS service is still J+ compared to many other TATL business class products as far as I'm concerned, even after some of the other changes.

I agree that they still offer one of the best J products, but it just isn't as good as it was :P . I know things had to change to remain profitable, but some changes just seem odd and must have cost quite a bit to implement.

As I seem completely unable to get my underlying point across - whether that is due to a lack of clarity on my part, or the obtuseness of others is a matter for debate - I'm going to cease discussing the matter.

I'm well aware that it is just a boarding card - and equally aware that the purple colour was not a 'benefit' of travelling in J. Contary to what certain individuals on here may have assumed, I'm not a complete idiot.

I don't think anyone on here has assumed you are a complete idiot, but you are opening yourself up for debate and getting it. Clearly opinion differs and you'll have to accept that. No one is saying you are right or wrong for feeling the way you do about the J product.

If you didn't want debate, why did you come back to vflyer? LOL y)

As this has gone on to Ad Hominem attacks, this thread is being locked while the Mods discuss it and decide what action to take.

As with all threads, robust discussion is always welcomed and encouraged. Insults and open attacks against individuals are not.

Right, this thread is now back open, with some posts removed due to the reasons stated by Darren.

It has been a long time since we have had to lock and remove posts from a thread like this. Please use this as a reminder for everyone of what is and isn't allowed on V-Flyer.

We moderate in a very light handed manner here and don't want to have to change that, but can do if required.

Thanks,
Neil

Greetings from the LHR Clubhouse this morning! Sitting here with my brother sipping on my first Redheads. At 9am no less!

We've got the new BP as well so I never got to experience the Purple ones but you can't miss what you never had!

Some observations:

1. For my PE flight from JNB to LON I was checked in at UC desk. And got a purple boarding card. That was last year. The colour of the boarding card is irrelevent.

2. It's irrelevent because so many people print at home now, and with the introduction of mobile boarding passes it is strange to highlight those passengers who check in at the airport.

3. If Virgin are shaving £££s then this should have been considered years ago. While I am sure the saving is small, having a uniform boarding pass would be cheaper, especially given Point 2.
