Wonder if anyone else is watching The Weather channel.com via tv or computers?

At present reporter Jim Cantore is reporting from NYC and saying that there are rough seas off Battery Park, gusty winds and steady rainful. However they don't expect the situation to deteriote now, let's hope so.

I am really pleased for the New Yorkers that the damage was not anything like they predicted. Watching this tv report, I have to say I've seen far far worse many times in Florida, but then they are used to it in that State. Just spoke to a friend who lives in Sarasota and he said it was a bit of a panicy over-reaction but I guess it was best be safe then sorry.

Given that Irene is only just arriving in NYC it's a little hard to say what the damage actually is.

But they seam prepared but from reading some of the comments from readers in some of the US newspapers a faie few are saying the responses like shutting the MTA and airports down are a gross over-reaction (and somehow managing to blame Pres Obama!)whereas others are 'better safe than sorry'

I do feel sorry for Jim Cantore and the others that stand out there in the harsh weather. Many times I've seen the presenters get blown over, blasted with rain and wind and they just get back up - however, I think this is their choice and as meteorologists/storm chasers they love it!

I think they made the right decision to close down NYC, you can never be over prepared!

I often think it's madness for Jim Cantore et all to even be out in that stuff, reporter or not!

On a more personal note though, my sister is one of many stranded in Florida cos of the hurricane. Due to fly home last night via NYC, which of course isn't happening, she now can't get a flight back until Thursday, and that's via Houston. I feel for her.

Oh come on ;) , they love it across the pond, nothing like severe weather to lead to endless dramas, which is what this pretty much looks like, 40 mph winds at JFK at the peak, no real flooding, a big bad storm is all it was.

Now our friends in the US will have to look forward to their next big drama!

Oh it's the 8's, indelibly imprinted on my memory, followed by some 'Storm Watch' or 'Tornados are sexy' or 'Hurricanes get me hard' kinda program!

Some pics from the MTA showing what they are having to deal with - and this is before they start checking points, electrics, signals etc etc

And there are some numpties who are expecting the MTA to be operating normally already!

Poor chap gets the blame for everything these days!!

Saw a comment on another forum which made me smile "Come to Scotland, we get storm surges, heavy rain and regular 70 mph gusts.. it's called the weather!"

TWC starts and ends my day when I'm in Florida. Many years ago when digi tv first started with sky I can recall an English version of TWC as a separate channel but its didn't last long.

I feel really sorry for all the folk stranded either in the US or those waiting to fly into the country, and of course more importantly for people who lost their lives in this storm.

Hev

I kid you not

There are more than several such comments on some of the US newspaper sites as posted by readers.

Yes its all a conspiracy created by Obama to try and make him look good snd spend more taxpayers money.

Aye, and it's also called a Scottish Summer :D

I thought I was the only one who was glued to TWC in Florida :D . When I was there in June, I flicked between the Casey Anthony trial and the weather reports. CF News 13: Weather On The 1s!!!!

I'll always remember the day before we were due to fly back to GLA, there was a "Severe Weather Warning" for a tornado which was projected to cross the 192 (where we were staying :D ) and pass straight through MCO. The drama was hilarious - the forecasters were constantly telling everyone to get to the centre part of their house - if you coughed in the direction of our villa, it would've probably collapsed!

I stood outside and watched the "cell" develop almost directly overhead - until I realised that there was lightning, and I was standing next to a swimming pool under a metal cage thingy!

I absolutely love the weather in the US - may seem sad but I don't care. I'm planning on going storm chasing in Tornado Alley next year!
