Flying 14/10/11 In Premium Economy VS043 LGW-LAS.
We'll be staying in the Gatwick Sofitel the night before. (BTW Fabulous Chinese restaurant in the Sofitel)
Since we're at the airport the previous evening was thinking of doing the Twilight check in to save time the next day.
However heard much talk on here about how they sometimes offer cheap upgrades to UC when you check in.

So my questions are:

1. I'm assuming that if such an upgrade option does exist then it would not be available until the day of the flight as they won't be sure how many UC seats they've sold until then. Is that right?

2. If I'm correct about that then should I check in at the PE check in actually on the day to maximise my chances?

3. And assuming I don't get the chance to upgrade for a reasonable extra charge, I was thinking of trying to get into the bubble in seats 74 A & C or 74 H & K. Does anyone have any experience of these seats? I like them because of the guilt free recline. IE always feel very aware of the person behind me being inconvenienced by my reclined seat.

Many thanks to all who reply!

Regards

Simon.

I think you will be disappointed :# .The UC upgrade cost offered (when it is) is rarely cheap . The LGW craft have a small UC cabin and it's generally a busy route (granted there has been some occasional use of the LHR craft) .
When I last flew to LAS in UC (last November) the cash upgrade from PE to UC was over £1,000 for the couple of unsold UC seats (and taken up by a couple of chaps off to a stag do :D ).

Dear Lady Dragon has answered about the upgrade cost, in this forum I think I once saw someone who was offered an upgrade at 999 squid. Never less. However, if you got a cheap PE sale fare that could still be good value.

On seats and reclining, I find that if you're in the front row you don't notice ): .

Hi and welcome!

Doing twilight check-in does not stop you asking about an UC upgrade when you are at the desk. Nor will doing it stop you going to the ticket deak the following morning to ask.

Nor will doing OLCI stop you asking at the desk at the airport.

Upgrades are often offered online so check in 'manage my booking' on a regular basis but if you see one bag it there and then as it might not be there the next time.

Though, as DragonLady says, the UC cabin on the LGW fleet is small (only 14 seats) and the flight is often busy so prepare to be dissapointed.

Thanks one and all for those prompt and informative replies.
Looks like I'll be stuck with PE. Have to say that I managed to upgrade our Tix to PE for only £350 per seat, after having initially paid the economy fare a week before. When I initially booked the economy seats the PE upgade would have been more like £700 each. So feel quite lucky to have got them at that price. I did however loose the £200 I'd already paid to get exit row in economy on the way out and extra legroom on the way back as this is non refundable.
Thanks again!

Hi Simon,

We managed to get 74H&K seats last time we flew to Vegas they only come available when VH release their seats for provisional reservation maybe up to 3 days before, but you have to keep checking every day,as I am doing now for travel in 11 days time.

They are great seats only thing is there isn't a lot of space in the overhead compartments but you can store at the back in the galley area and you have the small bins at the side.

it is well worth doing twilight check in as you are then free the next morning to have a bit longer lie in and stroll through the security area :P
