Can anyone advise me as to the best time and which website to use to book and find the cheapest flights? Planning to go 26th July 2012, return Aug 12th (2 adults 2 children).

Is it worth hanging on and hoping there's a January sale?

Thanks, Sue.

There's a minor sporting event happening in London next July & Aug that people might be aware of, so the chances of a sale in that period is going to be nil.

Reward seats are also like hens teeth.

That's a fair point, but we are travelling back the day the Olympics finish (well overnight really) so were hoping Virgin would assume everyone wanted to be in London and not America then and want someone to fill their seats cheaply during these dates!

Hello

The Olympics run from 27th July to 12th August and the Paralympics running from 29th August (my birthday!) to 9th September.

Even without the Olympics your dates are still prime time summer holiday time so the chances of a sale are likely to be limited.

The number of people saying they don't want to be in London during that period and will be jetting off to foreign climes leads to images of LHR/LGW being like the last days in Saigon!

That said, never say never but it will also depend on your comfort level - booking now and being sure you have the exact flights/dates/hotels you want or leaving it until January to book and the possibility of them not being available.

And waiting could also mean that the prices go up ...
