Upper Class Dress Code VS074

Going on from Spill's thread re Upper Class Etiquette, I want to run something past you people as I have picked up that some of you seem to fly in UC regularly. My DH & I are pension age, are perfectly pleasant & polite and hopefully don't have too many irritating habits. That said, we do tend to dress rather informally - smart Jeans, Jackets and shirts and horror of horrors - trainers!!! This return trip from MCO into Man is our first foray into UC & I just wondered whether this is acceptable dress for this particular flight. I have done all the smart suits & business stuff in my working life and have no-one to impress now but just wondered what the reaction will be when we turn up in trainers

There is no dress code as such in UC (or any cabin). You have paid for the seat, you are fully entitled to wear what you are comfortable in, and jeans/trainers etc are all more than okay.

I know this wouldn't apply to you, but providing you follow the usual levels of decency in your choice of clothing then you will be fine.

Wear what you are most comfortable in, there is no unwritten expected dress code, most people change into provided or own PJ's anyhow mid flight (often worthwhile doing this to keep own clothes clean), more so on the MCO route the atmosphere is very relaxed...
Jeans/tshirts/trainers are perfectly acceptable..

I'd wager that most millionaires, oligarchs, whiz-kids, well-to-do's etc would travel dressed exactly as you plan to. The only people in suits (or ball-gowns) are those who have come either straight from work or an event!

I think the only aspects people need to consider re dress code is that attire should be;
a) Clean, and
b) Generally non-offensive to your average traveller.

Other than that, the days of wearing black-tie etc to travel, is, as with reading the news on the BBC, long gone.

I've flown Virgin UC in jeans and trainers. Its not a problem at all.

Whats more I've flown BA First in RIPPED jeans and trainers before (I know, I'm such a rebel! ): ). I should point out - the jeans were expensive(ish) and the rips in question were on purpose. Possibly even "trendy" - but I'm never quite sure.

Still, it was fun to smile serenely back at the smartly suited dusty old businessmen who faces did twitch ever so slightly at sight of a scruffy whipper-snapper like me marching in to the middle of their little club. 8D

Basically you're paying for the priviledge and your miles/money is as good as anyone elses. Dress for comfort (or controversy!) in whatever you like - as long as you don't wear anything indecent...

Well of course, wearing a double-breasted blazer and cravat are de rigueur (think Nicholas Parsons and you'll be somewhere close).

The good Dr did not mention what would be suitable attire for a lady though I imagine something similar would suffice - a nice scarf instead of the cravat?.

Perhaps he belives ladies should not be in UC (nor should they be allowed to discuss the gold standard ...)

I have possibly seen nearly every variation of what people wear onboard from jeans/trainers to full wedding dresses! You will be fine with whatever you wear.

The only thing that it really isn't acceptable to wear are any tops with offensive words/slogans.

PS. Re the wedding dresses - they hadn't wanted to take their dresses off after the big day so decided to keep wearing them until they got to their honeymoon hotel. They had trouble fitting into the seats due to the size of the dress, spilt their dinner down their dress and had trouble even fitting into the toilet due to the size of the dress!

PS - I just remembered before lunch that we did once get upgraded to Club at Man before UC was invented there. I was in jeans & trainers then too - very nice jeans & trainers I might add.

Although this does not affect the OP it is well to be aware that in some Caribbean countries it is illegal to wear camouflage gear or even have luggage of that ilk.

Not everyone, but many do either change into a sleeper-suit or their own sleep-wear.

Regarding the sleeper suits that VS provide, I (and some others) do question whether they are always adequately laundered before being given out to the next PAX - and so prefer to take our own sleep attire. Not only that but the sizes are a bit weird.

I personally tend to change into my own favourite pair of light jersey shorts and a t-shirt to sleep in.

You can wear pretty much whatever you like, within reason.

However, your butler, maid, and chauffeur should wear their normal working uniforms. VS are very particular about this -- it is called Upper Class, after all.

The butler & maid are not invited on this holiday.
I've taken not of the PJ's laundry situation & I will have something comfy to sleep in. Definitely no camouflage gear will be worn/carried & the wedding dress is 40 years too late

We two/too are pensionable age and have had thoughts about this also.
Our first UC flight is due soon and thanks to much advice here we have decided to enter the CH quite smartly dressed....cords for hubby with a casual jacket, trousers and a type of twin set for me.
Once on board l have purchased lounge wear from M&S for his lordship.....and similar for me to change into as we really would like to sleep in comfort.
From what l have read here you should be absolutely fine.....and we also are leaving the servants behind!!
