Withheld seats

I have recently booked seats on MAN - MCO in May in economy on the A330 and the only available seats are at the rear of the plane, and I was wondering if VS still withhold 40% of the seats and if so can somebody tell me when they open these seats up.

Yes, 40% are held back until OLCI opens at T-24 hours.

Why do they hold back 40%? Cant quite see the advantage of this.

To allow those who don't/can't/won't use OLCI to have a change of getting seats at the airport

As Darren has said there has to be some seats held back so that VS have the ability to move people around if they need to.

There will be special assistance pax, pax without the facility to use OLCI and many other groups who need moving for operational reasons, and if they made the whole a/c available for pre-section then when they need to move people they would only upset those who had to be moved from their pre-requested seats.
