Fuel Surcharge Refund?

I saw a thread on the VS Facebook site where a customer had claimed that they got a refund on the difference in fuel surcharge where it had gone down between time of booking and time of travel?

The thread seems to have vanished, and I'm dubious, but I wanted just to check whether there's any truth in this?

The thread is still there (i have my FB set to 'most recent' and not 'top posts') but it is very interesting that there has been NO response from any of the VS social team to this - saying either yeah or nay to its accuracy (though I have noticed that they don't respond to many of the 'too hard' questions like the one asked by a lady travelling from DUB to MCO wanting to know if she would have to pay the increased rate of APD)

My view is that if they did give a refund then it was a probbaly a mistake on the basis that they wouldn't send an invoice if the YQ increased.

I don't see how as YQ actually increased from the end of Jan by £1.00 on most fares departing the UK.

Save as the note from Dave about getting a (confirmed) refund of his fuel surcharges when cancelling a flight.

He has the proof that VS have done it - but the VS Facebook team have steered well clear of the entire question/topic.

What continues to puzzle me and I have yet to find a suitable answer....is why does say a flight LHR-JFK have an "Operating Airline Fuel & Insurance Surcharge" of £193 for Economy passengers but anyone flying Upper Class has to pay a fuel surcharge amounting to £279.

Does that mean more fuel is used transporting those UC passengers then ii) ii) ii)

Personally think that kind of hike in fuel surcharge is grossly unfair and unreasonable but they get away with charging two different amounts month after month v(

well not the pax per se but the suite is heavier than a Y seat plus the extra luggage allowance.

My beef against the fuel surcharge is that it should be included in the base fare and not in the 'taxes, fees etc' part which gives the impression that it is nothing to do with VS when of course it is directly down to VS.

Can see your point tontybear but UC passengers have already paid a great deal more cash revenue for their suite and a couple of bits of extra luggage etc.

Which just adds to the reason why it should be included in the fare. However, it won't be, for the simple reason that surcharges allow airlines to add them to redemptions ... which means pots of extra money!
