Prehaps it is just me, or has the VS Facebook page been inundated with people who's singular purpose seems to be to criticise, quite viciously, the Upper Class product, and - rather more pathetically IMO - people who choose to travel in J or F class cabins?

I know on here this is a degree of good humoured banter, but any thoughts about why there has been this sudden upsurge in ad-homenium insults on the VS page?

Just an observation.

I think it is totally wrong to have a pop at the upper class pax. They have the finances so best of luck to them.what I do object to is is the snobbery that goes with it by certain members Remember this if there wernt y class. You would not fly any where..they are the baulk seats on all flights.

However, there are many valid criticisms of the product. It is a very expensive product and VS haven't kept up an acceptable quality.

Indeed and much of the criticism is about wanting VS to maintain and enhance it so that people will want to fly VS but VS can't see that. They are happy to give out endless miles in apologies but not to fix the problem itself.

Of course the new mantra is that the LGW/MAN refits will be the panacea to all the problems on those routes.

Unfortunatly VS have let themselves down on FB by the staff not answering the 'too hard' questions and giving some dodgy answers to the ones they do.

No disrepect to the social marketting team but at times they lack detailed product knowledge. They also act inconsistently i.e. they give out their email address but when someone else gave it out they reacted very badly (remember this was an sddress that VS post THEMSELVES and not a private one) and then went off on how busy they were and how FB was only part of the job. It gave a really bad impression of VS (though it was quite entertaining to watch)

They have a number of stock answers which they reel off-pat

1 'send me the details and I'll look into it'
2 'sorry you feel that way but give us an other chance'
3 'this is standard airline policy'

You either give FB 100% commitment or you go the BA route and use it simply as a promotional tool rather than an interactive one.

Being interactive VS have opened themselves up to anyone who wants to post (good and bad and spam) and that includes some dicey comments about the 'sort of people' who fly in which cabin and the prtty prejudices of those who post them.

Sadly, I fear the bubble and fluffy cloud of perfection over Crawley Towers wasn't quite ready to hear the *reality* of what their flying public think of them - in an open forum.

(Read: not ready for social media)

You get those who love, and those who hate - and those who want your product to be better, or remember better times/service so are disappointed when you don't deliver. But you have to welcome ALL, or it's not "social" media...!

On the anti-J thing, completely agree. Although some interesting (mis)conceptions are out there. For example, I see the quote "for the 99% of people who don't travel in business/first" banded around a lot. And it's a LOT on the VS page. Granted, some J passengers really don't help themselves by the names they use to describe others on the plane (FFS) but I fear people have forgotten the sheer number of J passengers on any one flight.

Have just posted to that effect on the "thread" about the UCDS vtravelled blog, here: http://www.facebook.com/virginatlantic/ ... 0506014656

@Mark - 99% who never fly business class? Really? On an Airbus A340-600, there are 233 economy seats, 38 premium economy seats and 45 upper class suites. So, 271 "non-business" out of a total of 316 seats.

Over 14% of the passengers onboard are paying £3,000-7,000 for their seat. That's quite a few people (and quite a lot of ticket value) that I'd want to be keeping happy if it were me...

Oh, and if we do some quick math... Average upper class price? Let's go at the low end, say £3,750. x 45 = £169k.

For Economy & PE to make as much money, the *average* price would have to be £623 per seat. Maybe it is (?), but as far as product investment goes, the business class cabin is a VERY important revenue stream for airlines - and does indeed keep economy ticket prices down.

I just wish everyone could get along and help/"nudge" VS into providing a better experience for ALL who pay their hard-earned money for a seat on their planes...

I do agree here, but I think some of the language used against UC PAX is just as bad as some words used against Y PAX, but that stays and doesn't get hidden by the VS team. It doesn't portray a very equality, diversity and inclusion image that VS are known for, yes not the views of VS but they hide a lot of the bad things said about Y PAX, and not so much of the bad things said about J PAX.

Likewise. And I regard myself fortunate that I stumbled on this website before some of the other snake pits that are out there. So proud to be in the 1% at work and also in the air!

I think a lot of it is to do with the number of people who like to act like a door handle in front of a pc screen. Just look at the bile bigotry and nastiness that is under just about any news or celeb item on AOL, clearly some people gratify themseleves with one hand and type with the other.

I am working class ( or I consider myself so ) but I will only fly Upper Class, I dont give a flying fig what people think about it.

I will say UCS has been grubby, covered in food salt and gunk regularly for me, never got my meal choice in years either.

I get more upset about a minority of UCS pax that hint or say that holiday route travellers are inferior and should have an inferior product to business pax or destinations. Its rather like parents who cant control their kids saying hey your off to Florida so get used to it what do you expect, total tosh.
