Can anyone tell me what the average upgrade price is at check in from economy to premium.

Travelling back on VS72 (744) most likely on a non LGW upgraded aircraft as it will be on 24th June. I know from last year there was plenty of space in Premium and Upper, with upper only having 1 person on board!!!

I know it may depend on the day but was wondering if folk had some idea on rough costs for a one way upgrade. I have checked my fare and it is not in an upgradable bucket to use miles (shame as we have more than enough) and the cost to upgrade to bucket is £600!!!!!

Cheers in advance.

This is possibly a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' questions.

There are published upgrade prices - for example on the LA - LHR (VS008) they are :-

Economy - PE £244
PE - Upper £1436
Economy - Upper £1636

Source - VS counter ad. March 2012

They are for one way upgrades, but they are by far from set in stone. There are several factors that will affect the price, such as who you booked your ticket with, the load on the aircraft and your current fare bucket. There are lots of fairly recent tales of upgrades for bargain prices, but also lots where the airline want silly money.

Ironically, lots of empty seats in the premium cabins may not mean cheap upgrades. If The plane is full down the back with spare seats up front, then they may be willing to drop the price to encourage people to move forward.

If you have booked direct with VS, have you checked 'manage my booking' on the VS website? This should give a price, if an upgrade is available.

If you haven't booked through VS, then see if your TA can find out how much an upgrade is currently being offered for.
