Hey helpful peeps

I am flying from LHR to SYD tomorrow night with Virgin Atalantic (VS200) and would very much like to use my stash of miles to get me in to Upper Class - at least for the Hong Kong to Sydney leg as I will be landing and going straight to work.

Been checking periodically with Flying Club but not joy

Any tips as to best way to secure an upgrade at the airport (with miles)? Get there early? Get there late? Is someone able to easily see load on this flight to see if there even is any spare seats in UC

I am Gold so don't mind getting there early if it'll help as I can entertain myself in the lounge

I have just done a quick check on the VS200 LHR-SYD for 15APR12 Shows an upper seat. I would give them a call before someone snaps that up.

As always you need to be in atleast an L class published fare (if you booked direct and your not in this grade there will be some fare difference to pay VS, if you booked via a travel agent and your NOT in a L/R/B/Y Published fare then you would not be able to upgrade) plus your miles assuming you have enough, there will be some YQ and Tax to collect as well.

Good Luck!

Awesome.

Will try again

Alternatively theres a reward flight available at 100k plus taxes. Could i take this and not use / reschedule my actual paid ticket

I bought it direct but its a cheapo x so i know i will have to pay to get it to the right bucket to upgrade for miles

Is this your outbound, or return leg?

If you don't use the outbound portion of a return ticket, all airlines will automatically cancel the return.

If this is the last leg of your trip, then this doesn't matter.

Its the return so not a worry there

Downside is its 45k extra miles and i wont earn the 20k or tier points (though am not fussed about tier points as live in Oz now).

Will they for a fee let me reschedule tomorrows bought retun leg?
