We in general book PE (K) class and if a good upgrade to UC comes along we book it,Virgin are showing upgrade prices on manage my flights, but a bit much for us,just wondering if these prices go down as flights get nearer,we are flying to Chicago on 17th Aug returning 31st Aug,I have looked in seat plan and apart from our seats and a few more in PE the flight shows unavailable,am a bit confused

Generally, the closer to the flight the more expensive the ticket/upgrade. But there will always.be exceptions.

Also not everyone selects seats, so PE could still be full, maybe virgin are holding a few seats back for some reason, or it could be an IT blip...

Looking at the seatmap will only show seat availability in the cabin you are booked in, UC may appear full - if that's what you're seeing?

Just to give you all a giggle, I'm on VS 19 today (LHR-SFO) and I called up VA yesterday to check into an upgrade on PE-UC. What was I quoted? £6400. And how about for just one leg? £4500. I kid ye not :-)

They suggested to ask again at the airport, but unless that got slashed down by 75% my wallet is staying in my pocket!

I have had this weird response before as well. They told me it is because there is no advance purchase on the ticket as you are flying next day so pay full J fare - regardless of when you purchased your PE ticket.

well today my booking LHR to ORD is showing a reduction to upgrade PE to UC of £1405.00 from £1809.00 PP of course this is only flight and no ground transport, but guess it will include UC check in and clubhouse although I have read on here that that is not up to much, still looks like a light flight tho so wonder if it will come down even more

I may be misunderstanding, but the LHR clubhouse is generally considered to be fantastic, one if not the best in the world, it certainly is up for much!

An update to my story of being quoted £4500 to just upgrade a single PE leg to UC (on VS19 LHR-SFO). I asked at the airport when I arrived and upgraded for £1460! Not amazing value still but it made the journey more pleasant. Even though it was done last minute, the plane was still filled to capacity, so I must have bumped someone else (possibly VS staff?)

I'm going to ask for on the way back tomorrow too.. need to figure out if it's worth affording first though but I do fancy a full night's sleep ;-)
