61A & 61C 747-400 good or bad??

Hi everyone its me again. I hope you can help me as you have really helped me with my last two questions and put me at ease

I have been checking Virgin seats to see if any near the front become available and they haven't but seats 61A and 61C have become available. As it is only me and my bf travelling I thought yes perfect no-one sitting next to us but then I have heard someone say they are bad seats as you can't lean against the side and there is resticted leg room for 61c.

Has anyone travelled in these seats or have any knowledge of whether they are good or bad? We are currently in 45J and 45K.

Also somebody has said that you have to pay extra for these seats which it doesn't show online when I go to choose the seats. Would they request money when I get there?

I've sat in these seats several times and in my opinion I prefer them to the usual row of three. It is true that you won't be able to use the window area to rest against but they just feel a little bit more spacious compared to the others. You don't have to pay extra for these as they aren't classed as 'extra leg room' seats.

The only down side is that you'll be last off the plane and last in the queue at immigration and it can also get a bit noisy being quite close to the toilets and galley area.

Thank you for your reply Matt. Can you still see out of the window? Have you had any problems when flying with Virgin and not getting the seats that you requested?

I'm with mattyp on this. We used to regard 61 A&C as the seats to have, and yes you can still see out of the window.

I can't in all honesty say that VS have been 100% in terms of seat request fulfilment, as sometimes they tried to be "helpful" to a family of four and put us in the centre of the aircraft, but in the majority of cases we have had the seats we requested.

if you can get them 62 are better. sitting in A you can stretch your legs down the side of row 61 and its fairly comfy.

downsides - no you cant lean on the wall and yes you are at the back of the immigration q.
upside its nice and quite and its just the 2 of you

I would always try and get these "pairs" of seats as it is only my wife and I travelling. They seem more spacious and there is no one to annoy or to annoy you to get out for the loo.
I have never been charged. Leg room is similar to all other seats.
The downside is it takes forever to get off the plane.

Fingers crossed we get a refurbished plane as it would make it perfect : )

Last year, we had booked one of the pairs at the back. We were called at the gate (we though "our luck is in", maybe an upgrade). No such luck, we were bumped up the plane to a row of 3 seats. Not happy!

They usually do it to help passengers who, for instance, have been split up and want - not unreasonably - to sit together.

I'm afraid a couple who don't want to sit next to anyone else won't rank very high on their priority list.

Im not bothered if we sit next to other people but I would prefer to sit just the two of us as I hate bugging people with going to the toilet and stretching my legs. Hopefully we keep the seats and if not that we still sit together as im not good with flying and would hate to sit on my own.

As to Rhath's point, is VS any worse than any other airline in this respect (where you aren't paying for the privilege)?

I've no doubt every airline peeves some customers off on every flight. They can't hope to please everyone all the time.

In your case, VS had to decide whether to peeve you off, or a family who wanted to sit together. Someone was always going to lose out, so they presumably decided the family were a more deserving cause even if you did choose the seats first.

They can't win really, so they just did what they thought was best. The family were probably very grateful even if you weren't.

You've got a really good point there pjh. Ive only ever flown with thomas cook and have always paid extra to sit together/choose seats so I need to remember that. So even seeing our seats at the moment is a plus
