I have just been thinking about spending my point and whether I want to travel twice in ec or once in pe? and I was wondering if I could use my upgrade vouchers to upgrade one way on two seats rather than return on one.

I think I already know the answer, why would they? its just that I have 2 upgrades and we have 2 kids who are only 9 and 6 and I feel that it would be a waste to let them travel in pe. but they expire after 12 months and we aont't be travelling without them.

can you gift them?

You can use them against another person's ticket - but not split in the way you want (2 outbounds rather than 1 return)...

You can use your upgrades for someone else's booking, provided they have made their booking with miles and there is PE reward availability on their flight.

You do not have to be a passenger on the upgrades.

The T&C of the offer say - ....you will receive a Premium Economy reward upgrade that, subject to availability, enables you to convert an Economy reward redemption (an Economy flight bought with your Flying Club miles) into a Premium Economy reward redemption on Virgin Atlantic
my bolding

See - http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/gb/en/fl ... print.html

From that - I read that the reward flights must be booked from the Amex cardholders Flying Club account, so the upgrade vouchers are not as transferable as you may think.

Good find Nick. I knew you didn't have to be traveling but never thought about whose miles must be used.

That's a bit off IMHO.
The cardholder has been given the reward and it should be the cardholder how they want to use them. If you can gift miles why not vouchers??
I went a good few years before I used any of mine!!
I wonder how many go unused so the extra benefit of this card goes begging???

I was trying to see if i could get 4 upgradges in the same year so we could upgrade the family, but the kids just don't deserve the extra cost

The problem with making any rewards transferable in the internet age is that they could end up in EBay or the inevitable secondary market will spring up through sites like this one. 8D

I can see the argument that the cardholder has earned the reward, and should therefore be able to deal with it as they please, but this goes against the general ethos of frequent flier mileage earning. Yes, it is possible to legally buy / gift / transfer your miles, but is it really the most cost effective way of using them?

IMHO The Flying Club scheme was set up to encourage and reward the brand loyalty of the person whose bum is on the seat and, whilst it is very true that various much discussed 'enhancements' to the scheme over the past few years have smashed this principal into the ground - limiting the upgrade reward to the account holder fit in with this.

For the VERY frequent flier, they have the option of paying for another person to use the voucher by paying for the whole lot out of their account.

same principle as the "companion" seat. In reality a lot go begging....
In 6 yrs never used any and save for G's...

I knew I'd read about someone using one voucher to upgrade two seats one way.
