So, I was booked on AA today from ORD to LGA on American. Only by fluke because I checked my booking before checking out of my hotel did I see my flight was cancelled ... Despite AA having my mobile number, email, even an advance flight notification did I receive any communication ... Nope. Next, 45 minutes holding to speak to someone, only to be told no rebooking until Monday, via St Louis and into JFK by 5 pm ... well that screws my day. I then go online and see there are seats on an 8 pm flight, only to hold again for 30 minutes by which time they had gone. So I cancel, next, I can't have a refund only a 'voucher' - which is piss all use because I won't be using AA again. Completely disinterested agents throughout ... and I was booked in First.

Now what I did do was pleasing for the future. I've never flown Delta before but I checked online and then called them, a super polite agent, and this after dialling to be given a message that they would call me back within 3 to 7 minutes ( which they did). Booked into LGA on a 3.30 flight, check in pleasant, gate staff pleasant, a new Embraer, lovely crew, no surliness ... sadly not on time but not Delta's fault (an ice rain storm hit O'Hare and the whole airport shut down). But the flight crew worked hard with ovations and after three, yes three deicings we departed.

Based on this all my old prejudices about AA were confirmed but I was delighted with the Delta experience. I hope it augurs well for the future.

I had a great experience flying SFO-LAX-SAN with DL.

I was upgraded to FIRST as I have KL GOLD status and with DL domestics they waitlist you FOC for F upgrades.

Was offered a G&T on boarding. Lovely service in the air.
Had to change aircraft in LAX - however it turned out to be the same aircraft and crew and without asking had another G&T brught to me whilst general boarding was happening.

I experienced AA's dreadful customer service when transferring at Miami. Due to the queue in Immigration (1.5 hours even when fast-tracked) we only had 45 mins to check in for our flight to Tampa and they point blank refused to let us go ahead of others who had later flights, making us miss our connection. Good to know that DL have raised their game.
