After a very lackluster flight on vs400 to Dubai I really thought that Virgin had lost the plot. It was our first time in the new upper class and apart from the inflight entertainment I though it was terrible. Cramped, claustrophobic and generally a real step backwards. This wasn’t helped by probably the worse stewardess possible who had to be asked for everything, including our welcome on board bubbles. The majority of our flights over the last 10 years have been A346 on the NRT route so we have become very accustomed to that plane and also fantastic Japanese customer service. We were traveling on a full miles reward ticket and late on Friday night found out we needed to be back in the UK urgently so needed to bring our flight forward. We immediately contacted Virgin in the UK and for no cost were given 2 economy seats Saturday morning on VS401. We were told that was the best they could offer and I was actually happy with that. When we arrived at the airport we explained our situation and asked if there was anyway to travel in Upper. I offered to purchase 2 new tickets with miles if necessary. After some consultation the ground staff changed our tickets and for a GBP50 date change fee we were back in Upper class and on our way home. I believe that with the tickets we had and the very late notice they didn’t need to do any of that for us, so I would just like to say that my faith has been restored. Thank you very much Virgin. Lets just hope the homebound service is better than the outward one.

Good result - hope you had a good flight.

If they'd have allowed you to buy a new ticket and upgrade with miles then you might reasonably have asked why they didn't just switch your original G!
