When I logged into my account yesterday, there was a message saying miles booster was on offer, and could be backdated for up to 6 months.

As I was just in the 6 months and working out that it was cheaper to do the booster option than buying miles, thought I would give it a go.

I never thought anything could be so difficult, rang the number they gave to do this, and got an operator who said I've been off for a few days, don't know anything about it.Will boot up my system and call you back.

So I waited and waited, gave him an hour and decided to ring again, was not happy.

I got an agent who said yes he knew about the scheme and could add miles on mine and hubbys accounts, so armed with all the flight ref. numbers, we started, got half way through and he said my card was coming up declined, maybe Amex didn't like the thought of a load of transactions were going through for roughly the same amount one after the other.Try another card he said, declined, bank account declined, I kept asking if it was his system, put me on hold spoke to a supervisor, no problem with their system, try again declined.I said could he call me back and I would check with Amex.

Horrors upon horrors every transaction had gone through about 20 tries he had done on my various accounts :0

He rang back and when i told him he could not believe it said it had never happened before,(do they always say this).I have told IT he said they will sort it, I have about enough faith in that as they say, a snowball in hell, and of course its bank holiday weekend.

He has promised to keep me up to date on what happens, not so worried about the cc as they will drop off the Amex agent said if not verified, its just the bank account where they will have to re-credit it, they have taken by the way over £3,500 with all the tries, any suggestions anyone, Linda

What an absolute mess!

I'd phone back and speak to a supervisor and insist that they reverse the bank transactions immediately.

Also they should phone your bank as well.

If you are charged any bank charges etc then VS should refund those as well.

Simple way round it is you demand VS return the funds immediately in the form of a refund into your account... feel like threatening them with interest charges to spur them along? :P

I suppose technically this is fraudulent usage so feel free to give the bank a call and report it as such. They will likely want to cancel your card, send out a replacement and open an investigation. Bad luck VS..

In terms of the credit card, give amex a call and get them to lock it off from their end. If the transactions are incomplete amex will recredit them, if however they have been authorised they will need to speak to VS to sort the mess out. Again investigations and phone calls could flow... n(

The fact it is bank holiday should not affect this too much, 24hr call centres and internet banking keeps the world moving :P

Good Luck 8D

Have rung the bank, who said the transactions have gone through and will appear on Tuesday, asked what to do and they said if Virgin don't credit back they will pursue it for me.I asked to speak to a supervisor last night and got fobbed off with they would only pass the message onto IT. Anybody got a phone number for anybody in authority at Virgin, the customer service number just gets me through to Swansea and they seem to be like headless chickens.

Latest update, rang Swansea again got another young lady, who seemed to be a bit more switched on.Rang IT for me they are fully aware of what has transpired and all the transactions will probably be cancelled so will have to start again.

Lets see what happens on Tuesday, I have complete faith in Virgins It department, (maybe they will prove me wrong).Lin

Thanks to everyone who has replied,

I am sure it will all get resolved its just the annoying part of it, we should eventually both end up with 60,000+ miles for £624 each which I thought wasn't bad.It doesn't effect your buying of miles total either. :)

EFT transactions (Electronic Fund Transfers) can be a little iffy sometimes. Here's the long explanation :-

The mechanics are the company requesting funds sends request to a central agency who in turn send request to the cardholders bank.

The cardholders bank then accepts or declines the authorisation based on many decisions, only one of them being available funds.

That authorisation then goes back to the central agency who acknowledge it then send the OK (or otherwise) back to the company that are requesting funds.

The companys machine then sends an acceptance back and the transaction is complete.

If there are any issues or delays with any one of these handshakes (within the one complete transaction) this can generate a decline message.

However, the money might have already been released by the cardholders bank but has nowhere to go because the rest of the handshakes have failed.

This generates a debit from the account holder, with no credit to the merchant and will usually sort itself out when everything is reconciled during the night, although over a bank holiday it might take slightly longer.

:w Here's the short explanation :- the debits will usually literally disappear overnight - you will not see any debits or credits on your account and your balance will return to normal.

Hope this helps

Yes Penny,Thanks.

I know its on for a month but as my flight last October is up on the 2ndApril so wanted to back date the miles before it ran out. I was being sarcastic about Virgins IT dept, sorry should have said. Linda

Perhaps slightly off topic, but on the topic of miles booster. :? :?

Does any other airline offer this service? Is it just an attempt by VS to get some additional money into their account and secure the loyalty of more flyers? Or have I missed something profound?

Sorry for being cynical there :|
