Good question -- definitely better to go to the CH desk itself and ask there. I've witnessed people doing it and paying to get in at that point, so what the OP was told was incorrect if they were told that it categorically cannot happen!

For future times, where is the clubhouse? I did see signs for lounges labelled as Lounge A, Lounge F etc, is the clubhouse one of those?

Ah, well that would explain it. The transfer desk staff won't have detailed knowledge of Clubhouse entry criteria, let alone the power to decide who to let in. They'll just be told "say yes to UC or AU, no to everyone else".

You need to ask at Clubhouse reception - only they will have the say as to whether to admit paying guests.

As to where it is, I'm sure any member of staff in the departure lounge could have pointed you in the right direction.

follow the sign to Lounge H, and its up the stairs, or there is a lift, at the top of the stairs there are 2 CH check in desks.

The board was saying Gate opens 17:45, now 18:10 and it still doesn't say. The board was originally saying Gate opens 1745 and Delayed to 1900 yet its just showing Delayed to 1900. I don't think I will be taking off at 1900, they still have to board everybody onto the aircraft.

May try to see if I can get in the lounge at JFK on 8th April. Where do I have to go to find the clubhouse there? Has anybody ever got in the CH at JFK on an Economy ticket?

Don't think you will have any joy with that one I'm afraid, try the oasis lounge as an alternative, about 40 ish dollars I think, basic but not bad views of the action outside
