Hey everyone

Just sat in the servicesair lounge waiting for my little red flight back to manchester after an excellent upper lass flight in from Mumbai. The flight was full but the cabin crew were one of the best I've seen. There was a gentleman looking after my upper section (seat 2k) and he was one of the best I've seen...

Anyway just wanted to check something. I'm a gold card member and have been for years. I fly a great deal and this has really increased this year due to my job. When I boarded last night and seattled in, the senior cable supervisor for the flight came over to just me and introduced herself. She knew my name and said it was great to have one of there top frequent flyers onboard and to let know if I needed anything. She then said if there anything they need to do for me let me know and she would ensure it covered for my futures flights.

I've never had that before and I was really touched...Is this something new? I'm sure there was other golds on the flight but didn't see her talk to anyone else.. I thought it was brilliant customer service.

One other thing on the flight I've not seen before, they switched the entertainment on as soon as the doors closed and it stayed on from takeoff and landing. I presume virgin are following BA's lead on this?

Door to door IFE is just being introduced... look forward to a TR on this flight if you get the chance :| a feature that has not been covered yet, would be interested to hear your thoughts.

As for the welcome back, it is one of those things that is down to the FSM or CSS dependant on how many FFs they have on board. Unfortunately it is not very consistently done for a variety of reasons. I have had indifferent FSMs sleeping in the doorway during the flight like a homeless person and then again the extremely proactive one always visible greeting FFs and making sure everyone is taken care of.. flip a coin :P

Hope you have a good Little Red flight 8D

The "Welcome Back" is a subject that has been discussed many times on here. It does tend to ruffle a few feathers and view points seem to go from "That's what I expect flying UC" right the way across to people thing that flyers that expect it are giving it a large does of "DYKWIM" ):
I personally think it is a nice touch. Hitting on what joeyc said above, it's the inconsistency that gets to me.
They know your name, FC status from the manifest so it's not that much of a big deal from the CC. Sure, numbers on board matter but once you have got it once and then it vanishes it just compounds the shouts of inconsistency even more.
I think VS should make it a policy or mandate that it is dropped.

It's a difficult balancing act isn't it - expressing a liking for the personal recognition thing on board, without coming across as a DYKWIA type...

I'm very much in the camp that it's a good thing, but needs to be done consistently. Although to be fair, it consistently never happens to me, so suppose I can't complain too much :-)

Probably my own fault for flying the AU heavy routes like JFK and HKG where I get lost in the crowd, but not holding out much hope for my flight back from ANU later today either...

It's such a variable thing, as a UNIQ I find that the case too - UNIQs should be mentioned in the crew briefing before boarding and I'm just back from SFO with no greeting outbound nor inbound. Au's obviously didn't get a look in either.

As for gate to gate IFE it's really post safety video to gate, so it doesn't come on until we'll into taxiing.

So far this year I have flown in to BOS / JFK / EWR and SFO and back to LHR all in UC.
I (think) it was only on the JFK route I got it!! One of the BOS - LHR flights was like a ghost town and still nothing, great service but no welcome.....

never been more than an AG and have been red for the last 15 flights. I really do not understand why it is so important for AU and UNIQ PAX to feel the need for special greeting and or some mention on the PA to everyone else on the flight? The cabin crew are there to make sure everyone has a good flight and making it obvious that some pax are more special than others seems odd to me. Flown Y many times and some many pax with so few cc means its pretty basic. PE cabin cost more so you get what you pay for, bit more room and a bit more personal service. Never flown Upper but the number of gripes from regular users makes me wonder IMHO if its worth the money. One last thing, seen a few moans about PE pax using the upper toilet. Well, keep the curtain closed and stop teasing us poor folks in PE with glimpses of the promised land :D On my last flight I asked a crew member if i could use the upper toilet (big line for the PE one) and i was given the ok. I also do not like Upper pax peering at the pe pax while they drink at the bar lol. Just enjoy your cabin of choice and let everyone else do the same. y)

Nick.......we were on the same flight today up from LHR I believe... I might have followed you down the airbridge at priority boarding........unless that was someone else!!!

Really pleased your flight from BOM was first rate and seem to have had a great crew.

I like the Little Red greeting welcoming all FC members, in particular welcoming back AU holders.I have had some great flights in the last year where personal greetings have happened.....on the other end of the scale the complete opposite with no names or greetings used, which sadly happens on more and more flights these days.

I'm firmly in the camp that anyone who expects to be greeted by name has ego issues.

Having said that, obviously it's lovely when it does happen. But in a way the inconsistency some complain about is actually a positive thing: if you treat it as a nice bonus, not a god-given right, you'll never be disappointed, only pleasantly surprised.

were only AG members but was greeted on the outbound and inbound flights to Sydney by name,as we have always flown VA and pay for the flights ourselves starting off in EC and now flying UC we did think it was nice touch and after our next flight should reach gold
