That's sad but where was the co-pilot, if an off-duty pilot had to help land the plane?

My feeling is this could be a case of "sensationalising news' here. More than likely the
off-duty pilot assisted to land the aircraft.

This story has been covered on breakfast tv today ahead of the vote. As a rep of BALPA has pointed out, the folks in EU wanting to change rules sit at desks, rarely cross timezones and have no practical understanding of the difficulties faced and are not listening to those who do.

He quoted some statistics about the rotational resting and how often a pilot has woken up to find colleague asleep. I'm with them.

it's 330 flights that are so long and no crew rest on these flights & the caa are very concerned !!!

Really? How did you achieve that with the locked door policy for the last 10+ years?

But on most routes the 330 operate (EX BOM), even when they flew on a A340-600 or 747 there was never any flight crew rest as there would only be 2 flight crew anyway.

I have spoken to a VS pilot on Twiiter about this and fatigue is a genuine problem which pilots are very concerned about....it seems the EU legislation doesn't help......no surprise there then v(
