In the old days, PE food was different from that served in Y and a heck of a lot better. Latterly I've started to wonder if this has changed. Can anyone clarify? Does PE still get different food from Y?

Or have the standards in both cabins slipped? ):

I recall a recent TR that had a pic of a nice looking meal in PE ,can't remember who posted it though .
It had a lovely looking bit of beef

The PE menu is a different menu to y. It is still the usual, chicken, beef, veggie option but not the same as that offered in Y, it is also packaged and presented much better and slightly larger also.

I'm of the opinion that there isn't much difference between the two sets of food, especially now there is no fruit bowl. The slight difference is in the way it is presented.

As Neil pointed out, it's still always chicken, beef or pasta, regardless of the numerous ways VS try and dress it up.

I wouldn't say there's much more though, PE meals do seem smaller now than they where when VS first relaunched the service.

Having had the delight of a VS Y meal outbound and PE inbound on our last flight, I do think that the PE offering is more substantial and overall a better offering.

I actually enjoyed the Y meal, however I was hungry still afterwards.

On my last PE flight I had a main course which I am sure was the same as that had in Y a few weeks earlier. Yes it was in a china dish as usual and perhaps a tiny bit bigger, but I think it was the same food. This is not the first time I've wondered this.

I normally travel Pe but travelled EC last time and got to say the food in EC was nice but I do prefer the offering in PE it was a lot nicer and better presented.

But as the others say I don't think theres much difference really, just presentation / size.

The only thing I preferred in EC to Pe was the GU desert in EC which you dont get in PE same with the hot chocolate.

It definitely isn't the same menu. We got downgraded from PE to Y last Easter, my parents stayed in PE and their menu was not the same as we got in Y,

Have to agree very little difference imo

Thanks Neil, that's exactly the knowledge I was after. :)

Does anyone else feel the standard isn't as good on return flights? Maybe I've been unlucky but have always found that outward from LHR is better food than return from JFK or EWR.

I've found that standards have generally dropped, but then again, I might just be getting more discerning in my old age.

In PE, I have to say I think the everything about the catering has slipped. I've seen food dumped from its plastic container onto the china in front of people, doesn't really give you the feeling that you're extra expense on a PE seat equals enhanced experience.

I've had some cracking meals in UC and also some terrible meals. I'd say a lot has to do with how it's prepared by the crew on board. Speaking of UC catering only but the chicken dish throughout October and November really did come out in all shapes and sizes, sometimes super lovely and tasty, other times, in a random heap. Some crew follow the guidebook, others tend to just slam it on a plate.

Yes -- it's interesting you should say this. The two flights that prompted me to write this thread were return legs from the US, and I am still suspicious that the main course was the same as the economy one!

And I guess, on a happy note, the mushroom glut is over.
