Hi all,

I know this is the million pound question but I need to get another 25,000 airmiles to fly at christmas. Any recommendations on how I can get there quickly - apart from spend on my credit card!

Thank you!

You could buy / gift some - although you need to make sure this works out as a cost effective option. No point spending a few hundred pounds to buy the miles when a straight cash ticket would be cheaper.

Otherwise there isn't that many ways apart from flying that will earn you so many miles.

Staying at hotels a lot can earn a surprising amount of points in little time. Got 6000 from a Hilton stay only a couple of months ago.

Headforpoints.com may be useful combined with tesco deals. Pre-ordering a game can earn thousands of miles for a fiver, making it cost effective to do so from a recent blog post.

If you are not already with a partner such as Tesco, then sign up and convert your points when they are giving bonus miles. Mrs. D seems to be amassing them very quickly.
Once signed up buy all your fuel at Tesco or Esso and swipe your reward card.
Always offer your Amex rather than Visa as it's double miles.
If you do fly then top up your miles earned with double miles.
It does cost by only £10 per 1000 as against £15 per 1000 normal purchase price.
If shopping on line do it through the Virgin partners web site.

Do you want the miles for an upgrade? or just to fly?
If it's just to fly economy then buy the cheapest ticket with cash.
If it's to upgrade then it may well pay to buy the miles.
Don't forget there is a lump of tax and other charges on a reward ticket.
Check out each option and do the sums.

I've earned a fair stash through Amex refer a friend deals. For example currently you get 18,000 membership reward points for sucessfully referring someone to Amex Platinum (amount varies according to which Amex card you have) which equates to 18,000 VA FC miles....not bad for doing nothing! In May they were dishing out a 30% bonus specifically on membership reward point --> VA FC transfers but alas that's expired now.

Not directly related to original question but if you collect Avios there's a lucrative 'refer a friend' offer on too via BA Amex allowing you to net tons of BA miles for no effort or spend :-)

Indeed if anyone on this site wants a referral on amex plat - I'll be happy to stick head up as a referrer as well (many will I imagine). The person being refered gets more miles as well, so it's a win-win for both parties.

I believe the Tesco Pre Order Games is still working but probably best to try with one game first. I managed to get 18,000 club card points, which is 45,000 miles over 2 club cards. Believe there is 1 more game that you can do this on now, Skylanders, possibly across 7 different platforms. Also as I am new to Tesco, I did 2 grocery shops for £60 on each club card ( cards are in different names, me and the Mrs) and got another 3,000 miles (7,500 miles) and just about to refer for my Mrs on Amex, another 31,000 combined! The miles are soon adding up. I have a flight to LAS in October paid in cash, looking at the post above how do I boost my miles and when can I do this ( miles on this flight comes to just over 15,000)
