So both the better half and myself had 370K miles to blow, so after not a lot of thought we are off to Washington to see some good friends. 4 Upper reward seats (yes kids are coming as well) were a breeze especially as it is around school holidays (in Dubai anyway). Cant wait to fly Upper Class again on VS, it has been such a longggggg time. Clubhouse access, free beauty treatments, on board beauty thrapist, little red pillows, stellar crews, fine dining on board, and those lovely amenity kits. Oh how I miss those....
Now on the way back we will stop off in London on the 15th, 16th April. I need to catch up with all V-Flyers i.e drinks and fun. You know who you all are. Tally ho!

I'm green that you can find UC reward seats. Maybe you fly another version of VS to me? No beauty therapist on board, most of the spa treatments have to be paid for, and the amenity kits these days are nothing to write home about!

But have a fantastic trip, a good time in the CH and a great V-Flyer meet-up. Some of us newbies envy those of you who have met up and do know each other.

I bagged a pair to NYC a couple of weeks back

I think Iain should perhaps have employed a "tongue in cheek" emoticon. He was having a Werthers moment, reminiscing about the days when you could leave your front doors open, policemen weren't young and could give young scallywags a clip round the ear and doctors drove Rovers to home visits, had fob watches and smelled faintly of cigars.

Bugger, will miss it by a couple of days we don't fly back from our cruise until the 18th. I will hoist one to you in adsentia Iain.

Share how you bag the UC to NYC - or was it to JFK? We've had PE to EWR next week booked since January when we needed that date but UC Gs weren't available. I've looked at least twice a day and often phoned as well since then. Still nothing. Nor for the return on 20 October. So you see, that's why I think you fly a different version of VS to me. :(

And of course I've absolutely NO idea of what it was like in those long-ago times you have so many memories about. :w

And sorry iforres, I didn't mean to hijack your thread. Have you booked the Secret Service tour? I ask because our son and DIL took visitors on that last month.

I did find it impossible for this year. I wanted to go in either October half term or the week before Christmas (which we have done before) but I hit the same wall as you. Mine are for JFK during Easter 2015. I came across them quite by chance on night just before bed, started hyper ventilating, checked with the other half and booked them there and then.

Neither have I. Those are only tales to me, spun by those who were flying UC when we were still on the back seat of the bus.

That sounds interesting. When we did Washington we missed a lot of tours as we hadn't booked in advance, so maybe a good excuse to return.

Yes I was being a little nostalgic about past VS flights. The rewards seat were wide open, hence the reason for booking and was very surprised as I am sure it is around Easter time in the Uk as well. Secret service tour sound a good idea, my sort of thing. I love all these no thinking secret service movies. As for a little impromptu gathering lets see what we can come up with.

You can also book a tour of Congress in advance too rather than risk a turn up on the day.

If you are into antiques the Diplomatic Reception Rooms in the State Department can be an interesting tour - again only bookable in advance.

Easter next year will mark the kick off of the 2015 General election so government travel will be limited so that may explain the availability of Gs to DC.
