Quick question regarding the free upgrades offered through spend on the VA White Amex card. My understanding is that I can get upto 2 upgrades from EC reward flight to PE, if I spend £20k on my card in a year.

I understand that there needs to be PE reward availability, but my question is, does there also need to be EC reward availability showing? Not looking to book until next year, but looking at my route it rarely shows availability for EC reward seats! Cheers.

Just to add, if you can wait for an air mile sale, as has just happened, then you can save a few miles as well. A simple search for the PE seats using miles will tell you if there are any upgrade seats free. As I have some recent experience in this, you can also split 1 AMEX reward for 2 seats on 1 leg. It took me 3 calls to finally get that bit of info though!

Thank you for this little gem. We have 5 UC to MCO, PE return flights booked for next year, all paid for with miles. I've got 2 PE upgrade vouchers that run out at midnight tonight and another 2 that have been added in the last few days. I've just called the Flying Club and a very helpful lady has changed our return flights to allow us to book Economy rewards, split 3 of the vouchers and upgrade all 5 to PE.

That's saved me 68,750 miles! y)

Thats good to know about the PE vouchers, that's 2 or 3 people now who've posted they've been able to split vouchers to use on one leg. I'm thinking of perhaps doing this and so it's good to have evidence to quote if I'm met with resistance!

Thanks for this, great information. The only issue I now have is that there may be no reward availability at all for my return leg! Planning on a booking for August 2016, but regularly checking availability for next year as a test, and still no return availability MCO - MAN has been loaded for late August!

Still, will keep checking and keep my fingers crossed!
