I want to be outside enjoying the trip, not running from one air-con refuge to another, which I think would be the case if we visited August-October.

But i have never visited and my view is based on trip reviews and advice of others.

Having visited Key West 2 weeks today, I can confirm that the humidity there isn't as bad as in Miami and at a similar level to Orlando. I think with the Keys being surrounded by the sea this helps to keep the humidity in check. y)

I wouldn't worry hiljil. Thunderstorms are to be expected, however it's not like that all day every day. Having just got back from Florida, I've found that most weather forecasts always say thunderstorms but others, such as the Weather Channel, proceed to state what the %age of the thunderstorms occurring are.

My gut feeling is that it won't be as bad as the weather forecasts are making it out to be, so just go with the flow as I'm sure it'll be fine. :)

The resort we stayed on, Bahama Bay was brilliant, we were the only ones in our entire "wing" of it so always had the pool to ourselves!!

Was a little eerie late at night walking from the bar to the apartments but was actually quite cool in a weird way!!!

The parks were great, biggest queue of the whole trip was about 25 mins for the Simpsons!!

Similar to when I was Universal last week. Apart from the Harry Potter rides, especially Escape from Gringotts seeing as that's not long opened, most rides you're waiting no longer than 30 minutes for. Even in the quiet season, first thing in the morning is the best time to go.

We have spent nearly every year for the last 12 years holidaying in SW Florida (Cape Coral) at around the November time. I have found that quite often the weather forecast's prior to departure can be a little pessimistic. The most reliable weather forecast websites that I have found are Wunderground and Accuweather. That said, even the good old Local on 8's can be a little inaccurate at times :D

Hi NOC,

Cape Coral is where I'm off to too. Been going there many times since 1999. Hasn't it grown in that time !

hiljil

Hi hiljil
Indeed it has ! We usually aim to stay in the Cape Harbour area and in that time, as you say, there has been lots of development. A few years back the doom and gloomers were saying that the property market on the Cape was about to implode. It certainly had it's fair share of the rough ride but appears to have emerged reasonably well.
We are out there in December this year, a little later than usual.

Have never been to Florida in September personally (to avoid the hurricane season). However, an ex-colleague has been there the past two weeks. From her Facebook updates, the weather has been very variable. Cloudy, wet (to the extent of walking in ankle-deep water in a downpour), to hot and humid on dry days.

Certainly always expect the "4pm thunderstorm" at this time of year - it can mess up your arrival into MCO too, as the ramp workers are not allowed out when there is lightning in the area.

I prefer Orlando in May or November for choice. May is hot & slight thunderstorm risk. November is generally drier and a little cooler. Whenever you visit, you'll have a good time for sure!

We are here currently. First few days was humid, very hot with some serious pm rain storms. Since last Thursday we haven't personally seen any rain (although think Universal area had a little late Friday night), the sun has been out every day and the temps are a lovely early 80's.

We were in Orlando from the 17th Sept until the 1st Oct, we had rain every day. According to the weather people Sept has been the wettest on record with some areas of central Florida having 18 inches of rain, 300% above normal. Despite all this Universal was quiet with short lines. Never had to wait for a seat in any resturant and apart from the daily chaos on I4 eastbound the roads were pretty quiet. Go prepared, take or buy an umbrella or descent poncho and make the most of am sunshine. Yes it's hot and humid but it's not that bad.

Just seen the updates on this thread, mixed weather by the sounds of it.
In the end we plumped for Dubai in May instead, more reliable weather and managed to use PE Amex vouchers. We also realised that we are so busy with work/school that we need a proper downtime holiday.. beach and pools being the priority :)
We will save Florida for another time though definitely !!
