I'd just email their customer services.

I'm sure they are working on a solution now to refund people automatically but given that the change was only announced two days ago they will need some time to get things sorted out.

If I've got my son an M class upgraded to G, would we be entitled to a refund of some of the apd we've paid? or does it just not work like that??

No as APD still applies to the premium cabins even for the <12s and later the <16's
