Hi

Decided to upgrade my inbound flight to PE -its a reward fair- was quoted the amount of miles and £62 in total to upgrade - I went ahead.

Yesterday I noticed 3 authorizations on my Amex one for the amount agreed and 2 for 113.

Call center are clueless- Ticketing don't know why and accounts are closed until tomorrow.

Its not hit my card proper yet but do you think I should be concerned?
VS now want proof of the transactions they made!

They could have attempted to put the transaction through more than once for the wrong amount, and cancelled it. Wait a few days and see if the other two pending charges actually hit your account.

I agree with NYLON, give it a few days. You've at least flagged it up already with VS. Had your e-tix been reissued with the charges you agreed written in or with the charges that you see pending on your Amex? Because really that's the only way you're going to prove the transactions you agreed to I think (but they really should have a trail on the system of what's agreed / paid etc, shame on them if they haven't).

The e ticket was issued with the correct amount, and 2 agents on the phone have read the notes back that state this amount, the other 2 charges are an odd amount and don't add up to anything. From what I understand my notes back up my side and the E Ticket confirms it.

I hope VS sort it am worried about raising a dispute with Amex in case VS cancel my flight,

Am a Natural worrier- maybe the charges will never post to the statement or this chap in the call center will sort it for me, sadly my faith in getting anything sorted over the phone is very low.

Why can't things be straightforward...

Well I know they don't always but your documentation matches what it should be and the notes on the booking do if they've been read back to you. It'll get sorted I've no doubt.

Until you see the transactions actually post, I'd sit tight and not worry. Amex are very quick to show any authorizations on the card (i.e. when you check into a hotel and the hotel effectively puts a deposit on your card which - unless you the trash the place :| - is left to reverse out on its own after you check out, and you never actually see it on your statement).

Am hoping this will be the case and i'm worrying over nothing.

I would have to agree with the others here.
Until the transactions have been posted to your account "let sleeping dogs" and all that.
It may even be a simple pre-authorization amount that will vanish.
Worst case is it gets on your bill. You call Amex, they put the amount in dispute - Not cost to you at all.

Don't worry Gavin, we had much the same problem last year when an additional £200-odd was charged. FC immediately acknowledged it was an error and would be corrected. Ever more senior levels of VS said it would be sorted, had been approved, was with the appropriate department for action etc. After a couple of months, we referred it to Amex and within days, not only had the amount been quarantined by Amex, but VS had paid up.

But in addition, and to allay your worries, our flights were not cancelled and we've flown again since so we've not been black-balled either.

I'm a worrier like you but please take heart, it will get sorted without affecting your flights.

WE had great fun about a year ago when trying to take the payments for our VS flight one went through then the other got declined!! So gave the agent another card declined and another declined?? Thought we had better call it a day on looking at my statements they had all gone through,(it was the agents system) What a surprise think there was about 8 in total, it took ages about a month but it was all sorted and they all dropped off eventually. It was quite a stressful time as it came to quite a bit of money. This is where debit cards come into their own as pending transactions or 'holds' can only be placed on debit cards for upto 7 days, where as on credit cards it can be as long as 30 days.

This is also why hotels prefer you reserve a room using a credit card rather than a debit card, especially if you stay is for longer than 7 days.

The £60 something posted to the account today, the 2 random payments are still in auth, so am hoping they will just drop off.

Am hoping I wont have to chase VS or contact Amex
