Hi guys

Off to Cancun with the good lady at the end of June and wondered what my chances are of upgrading my PE flights out to UC using just miles?

Also with the closure of the VRoom at Gatwick what are the options for a lounge other than No1 as used that last year and it was pants?

Cheers

Vince

It depends on the fare class you have booked into, some are upgradeable and some are not. I think you just need to keep an eye on availability by checking the dates of travel. I can see for June ex. LGW it shows that there is UC availability for 11,14,23, if those are your dates I would get on the blower to them !

Are your tickets in an Upgradable fare bucket? If not you'd have to pay for them to be changed and then upgrade.

On the LGW 747s there are only 14 UC seats so reward availability is always hard as people book so far in advance and are willing to pay cash!

There’s availability showing for at least 2 passengers on the 11th & 14th June in UC on the outbound, but nothing on the return.

As others have said, you need an S or W fare on the outbound to be able to upgrade. An S out and K back comes in at £1,179pp plus an extra £60pp for the additional taxes for UC. This should give you a good idea of how much extra you’ll need to pay. You’ll need 25,000 miles to upgrade the both of you but do remember you’ll each earn 13,594 miles from the trip along with 7 tier points.

Re lounges VS sometimes allow PE passengers to pay to enter the Clubhouse (£55 each I think) but it's never guaranteed and always subject to availability on the day. That's by far the best lounge in the terminal and if you do upgrade to UC you'll get in free. But as others have said your PE tickets must be in an upgradable bucket (ie not the cheapest, K) and there needs to be UC reward availability which is scarce.

Otherwise it's No.1 which by June may have moved to its new, much bigger location. The service probably will be the same though so if you didn't like it last time - and as shared lounges go it's actually not bad - your choices are limited.

unless you can get in the CH for money or UC upgrade, the new no 1 will be your only choice, it's supposed to be bigger than the old one which could be pretty unpleasant at times

when not on VS i use the priority pass lounges, i quite liked the old LGW south servisair, nice staff, comfy chairs, basic snacks and was it peaceful!
