I used to fly regularly SYD-LHR / LHR-SYD back when Virgin still covered that route. I stopped about the same time they did...good timing as it turned out!

I have a return trip back to SYD (from LHR) coming up and wonder what people consider to be the best alternative carrier. Will be travelling First. From what I can tell...it seems to be a toss up between Etihad's A380 Suites or the new Singapore A380 apartments.

Any first hand experience of either...or other carriers?

...i'm assuming there is no way to earn Virgin miles doing this route these days?

Any input gratefully received as ever!

You can again now as VS codeshare with VA on several Australia routes, including MEL and SYD. You can fly either way round either via LAX or via HKG, all bookable either online or via the VS call centre.

I'm not sure if they codeshare in F though as VA don't have an F product. You'll earn miles and tier points on Singapore though.

The Tier Point earning on SQ is very generous too - 175TPs per first class sector (assuming >2,000 miles).

Thanks all,

Wow, so with Singapore you could snag 700 tier points on a single return trip. Tempting...

Does it have to be booked in a certain way in order to qualify?
